I have a dead pickup (dismantled and no windings) and I'm wondering about others experiences with rewinding. I think someone mentioned Fralin has done it. How were the results and are there any other thoughts on this? Anybody know the wire spec...I'm thinking about talking to Lollar about doing this for me so if I could tell him the correct wire, etc...thanks

Lollar has done this for at least one guy on this board. I know this because Lollar called me before he did it. This was several years ago. I told him that we used #42 wire for the basses & #43 for the git-tarz. 1 turn=1 ohm. I believe the guy who hired lollar was virtualinc. Does he go by that name on this board? Admin?

What he did was somewhat experimental, not a straight rewind to factory specs, but I think in general, he was happy with the work.

Not that I can ever recall. Bartolini would be my best speculation as a company that may have done replacements for Beans on a custom order basis. Most early aftermarket pickup companies (Dimarzio, Velvet Hammer, Schecter) were focused on making high output pickups, which were already available on Beans.

No dead on replicas to date, with logos and stamped covers. I have seen some meticulous milled versions, but have not viewed the underside to see how the mount was done.

NOS and used humbuckers were turning up in vintage guitar shows and repair shops before Ebay. Over the last two years very few pickups have been offered on Ebay, whereas roughly 5-10 a year would surface before that. Patience and affordability appear to be gone from the hunt, so we stand a better chance today of seeing someone step up to reproduce Bean pickups. Also factor in all the NOS bodies out there that would benefit with them. CNC neck milling should help those guitars finally see completion, and correct pickups are perhaps now the highest hurdle in a TB restoration.
