New Bean on ebay. Looks to be in fantastic shape. No serial mentioned, but stated pre 100 serial. States low playing time and has a reserve.

wow, after all the healthy debate that's been going on in the "hmmm.....what's the value?" thread, i think we can all agree that this guy is out of his ******* mind.

reserve under 6k? really? So what, like 5,495? woooo, xmas in february! someone needs to tell the dude that the 500 went for only 3,500. no WAY should 1000s have a reserve anywhere near 6000.

Isn't the guitar in Australia? So he probably means 6K Australian dollars. Also consider that Beans are that much more rare in Australia and many sellers prefer not to ship over seas. It's still a lot of $$, but I frankly think the the value of these guitars is higher than what people have been paying given the limited number in existence.

At some point all of the "surplus" Beans will be in the hands of players (hopefully) or collectors (sadly) who are not interested in selling. Then watch what happens to the price. Right now you can buy a Bean for what you'd pay for a new or used custom shop Les Paul. Comparable guitars for sure, but there are so few Beans compared with the number of LPs out there. The market is weird place especially when international sales are tossed into the mix.

FYI - the new forum software is nice! The links from the "Recent Posts" side bar don't seem to be working right for me since the switch. Many thanks to the Admin for his labor of love with this site. Your work is much appreciated.

good point about being in australia. i hadn't thought of that. but you think he would mention the specific currency he was referring to.

if you haven't checked it out, you should look at the thread called "hmmm....what's the value?".
there is a lengthy, if heated, discussion of bean market values and the bullshit therein. sorry to kerble it, but it is quite interesting.

it looks like on the very bottom back of the neck right below where the strings go through there is something engraved. ive seen engravings up higher but not down here. maybe ill ask him what it says, than again maybe someone else should do it as i probably wond get around to it.

I have some concerns about this guitar...

1. Why aren't they posting the serial number?
2. The close up photo of the headstock.. might be the lighting, but doesn't look like a brass nut?
3. Knobs, look like the modern 'speed knobs', not the original gibson knobs
4. Black toggle switch cap (I'm pretty sure they're all white)
5. Shot of the back of the next (half way down) looks like a scratch, but could be reflection.

Just seems like it's been modified and not 100% original. Could be early proto-type I guess, but why are they holding back on the serial?

The guitar may not be as "dead mint" as they guy is letting on. That said, it's a gorgeous instrument in what appears to be damn good condition. Any scuff on the neck can be easily buffed out. The price is steep. I predict nobody gets to his reserve and he either tries again or sells it offline.
