I happened upon one of the Bill Wyman short scale basses the other day in an out of the way guitar shop. Only one of two. I thought about buying it, but want to get folks opinions on the demand or interest in this bass and maybe a price range of what people might pay for it.

It's not one of two made, and unless it has an inscription in the back of the neck, I doubt it was previously owned by Wyman. Travis Bean made 30" short scale models for Wyman and also for one retail store... but total they did only make about 6 or so... so it's still rare.

Sometimes rare is good for resale value, and sometime's it's bad. I got my lefty TB2000 (inscription engraved in bac k and signed by Travis & Marc) for only $660 about 6 years ago. I've only seen like... 2 other left handed TB 2000's, which makes them rare, but I didn't have to pay $4,000 for it either :)

Plus the E on short scale basses usually sounds like crap. It'd be cool as a "collector's piece" though.

I agree with Chris. When the recipient was a "name" musician, TB would usually inscribe something like: for Bill Wyman

Travis Bean xx/xx/1976

I know he did this on the Wyman Basses, Kieth Richards' & Ron Wood's 5 string tb500s, Rory Gallegher's tb500, Roger Fisher's Artist & others I've forgotten about. Michael Sembello & Ronnie Montrose each ordered Artists & Greg Lake a Standard with a coil splitter, but I don't remember if he inscribed any of those. Montrose's probably, since the esteem in which TB held the musician was something of a predictor.

If I'm remembering correctly, the Wyman bass used special strings. The windings stopped-short of the nut, with only the core passing over the nut to the tuning machines.
