Hi There
I currently own this Bean. Unfortunately, it's been sat in it's case for the last few years and with my personal circumstances changing I'm gearing up to, very reluctantly selling it.
Anyway before I wave a sad good-bye does anybody have any info on when my Bean might have been made. Sorry if I've missed this somewhere on the site.

right so i purchased this guitar, and i must say it is in wonderful condition - that imron paint barely has even a ding anywhere on it. the body is nicely worn and does not look abused. virtually no fret wear. the pictures really didnt do it justice. anyway, the point i wanted to bring up was that i own tb1000s 964 and compared to that and artist 989 the neck is noticeably thinner at the nut than the fat prifile both of those guitars have. its not as thin as my 500, but there is a big difference to the 1000's ive played. i was wondering when did these tappered necks become common on 1000 series beans? they are preferable to be perfectly honest.

Yes, that piece of koa was SPECTACULAR. I was speaking to the Master Luthier at EGC and we both agreed that they were finally perfecting the perfect guitar with those last thin models. The balance is near perfect, the weight is not a burden on your back, the strings were easily accessible and the koa they were getting was the best ever. That's one reason that blue refin is so tempting.
About the fret board radius, they were dead FLAT (zero radius) also until the very end when they put a slight curve on the board. Neither good nor bad, but I guess slide players like the flat. When I had the honor to meet Slash, he told me that he learned of Beans at a joe Perry Guitar Workshop (Imagine Slash going to a guitar workshop. Funny) and that Perry showed him that if you raise the action high up, they are the perfect guitars for playing slide. I'm sure that was the thought behind the two double necks made. You could tune one of the necks to an open D or any open tuning you like and still have standard tuning on the other neck. I just can't imagine what one of those weighed. I bought a guitar from a really nice guy who once owned one.
Any-hoo, about the neck widths: i have a very early one in the 200s that is not much more than an inch at the nut. This one is also ebony. Almost hard to play with large hands. On the other end of the scale, my lone white standard which weighes about 15 pounds has a neck that is nearly 2 inches at nut. 1 & 6/8ths to be exact.
Finally, I have a good friend who is about the greatest blus player i have ever heard. He plays Les Pauls and showed me a trick he uses with LPs and it works with beans just the same. If you put the toggle in the middle and turn the bottom volume and treble to 10 and the top treble and volume to 0, you can dial in your tone with the top volume knob. This allows you to play clean if you want or to dial in overdrive to your taste. Not really a "trick" but it works pretty nicely and helps if you want to play clean.
