I believe that they did not start over based on this article.

Do you know how many series one were made, like the reissue Jerry Garcia, NO. 12?

The TB 500s did start out with single digit serial numbers. #6 is the first one documented in the excellent database which can be found on this very website. #11 and #12 belonged to Jerry Garcia. The story goes on from there.

Someone posted a log sheet of all the TB-500 first generation builds here a while ago. I seem to remember the large thick body TB500 production totals being about 10 in all. I saw three of these early 500's in Vincent Gallo's collection. I think around serial 20 or so the body changes to the standard known TB500 shape and the entire production afterwords are identical guitars. Except some came with the aluminum knobs and some with the solid black type with white numbers printed on. Vincent Gallo also had several second series TB500's and several of those were white or pearl white. Some were also black and red. I think more than 50% of the TB500's were color finished and nearly all had black necks. I like the black 500's best. If you sell your TB500 definitely offer it to Mr. Gallo as he paid me a pretty penny for mine. Though he pays his craziest prices for Wedge model guitars. He has a website with his contact info
