i have 1000s #1711, and i love it, but the pickups seem to have a hum or buzz not unlike a single coil pickup. i checked the ground wires and they seem to all be soldered in their proper place. any ideas what it could be, and what i could do to get rid of it?

Do you have a VOM or a continuity tester? Check for continuity between the stainless steel pickup cover & the braided co-ax at the end of your pickup lead. Do this with the pickup completely OUT of the guitar. If no continuity - try wedging something small & metal (maybe even a snippet of solid wire)between the cover & the steel base plate, ideally at the end of the pickup opposite the pickup lead. Test again. If that works, then secure with epoxy. Always OK to call me at 775-560-2220 (PST).

okay, i tested continuity with my multimeter, and the pickups test fine. also, the noise is audible in all pickup positions, so it's a problem that affects both pups.

Only two ideas - both longshots. First, re-check every possible grounding point for continuity to any other grounding point. I'm sure you're aware, if it's metal ground it. Second, we used to run a short length of grounding wire from the bridge p/u tone pot, up & bent 90 degrees over the recessed plateau so it would contact & ground the cover plate when it was screwed in place. As I said - both longshots.
