The pots on my Bean are going bad (very scratchy). Does anyone have a schematic fro the wiring harness on a TB1000S? Thanks JT

You don't need any more schematic than taking the rear plate off. Contact cleaner or disc brake cleaner used sparingly on the inside of the pots. If you saturate them, it'll drip on the finish. Blow with compressed air if you can. Even if you needed to replace ALL pots, you could do it 1 at a time, using the OTHER pots as your re-assembly guide.

Thanks I finally got time and replaced the pots with new ones, one at a time as you suggested. However now when the toggle swicth is in the center position and I turn either volume control down or to zero, the volume on the whole guitar goes down. It didn't do this before. What did I do wrong?

You probably reversed the pickup lead & the lead going INTO the switch when you soldered them to the back of the volume pots. The pickup lead should be soldered to the CENTER lug of the pot. (the wiper) The co-ax from the switch - to the only remaining lug. (I'm assuming you grounded the third lug to the body of the pot like the others). I'm told that all Gibsons are wired the OTHER way - i.e. the way you DON'T like. Ronnie Montrose had me wire his TB that way because he'd been playing Gibsons all his life & liked that arrangement. If that doesn't fix it, email me & we can work it out over the fone.

I switched the leads and it works just like before. Thanks you have been very helpful. The guitar sounds great and it seems to have more punch now with the new pots. Thanks again JT

I am having to replace the 4 pots in a vintage Travis Bean Bass, can anybody tell me what value pots I need to get? I'd be grateful for any information, thanks.

500k is ideal - 1 meg will work.

Are the 500k pots appropriate for TB guitars as well as basses? Do you use the same pot for volume and tone? Sorry to be so ignorant. Thanks!

Yes & Yes. No need to apologize for not knowing something you've never been told.

It's been so long since I've played my TB4000, so I don't know about that one.... but on my TB2000, there are a couple of things I always thought were weird regarding the pots: Two of them are reversed (I think the tone controls, but I don't have the bass with me, and always leave everything "wide open", so I'd have to check) and when you turn the volume pots down from say, 100% wide open down to even 98%, it's almost like I've also turned the tone knob down with it... all the treble goes away with the volume knob being turned down even a little bit. Any idea what would cause that? The pots aren't scratchy or anything like that... And those big orange resistors (?) are still in there and everything...

Frank? :)

Well ... the big orange things are Sprague .05uf capacitors. The treble attenuation with the volume down was a more prevalent complaint in the guitars, and was addressed by bridging the 2 non grounded lugs of the volume pot with a .001uf capacitor. It acted as a high pass filter. Don't know how transferable this arrangement would be to basses. Assumedly a larger cap would be needed. .01?
