Okay, my father recently passed. He owned a 500, knew all about them, and lent me his knowledge about music. I have to put it up 4 auction , i see what they are and have been selling 4, my questions is: since it was purchased at a pawn sop in or around 1989 and had the # crudely eff'ed up, how much does that decrease the value, it is in excellent shape and plays like a mutha*** thx 4 any help

That all depends on what "crudely effed up" means. Perhaps post a couple of pictures....
The last 500 that went up for auction was altered and also had some damage and did not get a single bid.

Don't forget that the serial number was stamped/written on the neck in several locations....doubtful that anyone tampered with the numbers under the neck, between the pickups, etc
