This topic hasn't come up in a while, so maybe there's some fresh info. Has anyone here come across the mythical 1997 reissue guitars? Kevin's talked about how great the basses are. I've heard there were somewhere between 3 and 18 guitars built (including basses?). Does anyone have one, or know where one is? I remember hearing that perhaps some were in the hands of a German collector.... if memory serves?

Bass reissue #1 is actually in Australia at present (not mine, but I know where to find it!) ... and yes, they are indeed amazing. The neck and body back are made of a single piece of aluminium, with a flame maple front and lots of classic TB metallic 'zing' to the sound. They are a bit lighter than the original design, too, from memory. I only wish Travis had made a few more before closing up shop again - they were just too high-end for the majority of players out there, and the TB market hadn't reached the heights that it soon would, so they seemed overpriced at the time - around the 6k mark? Who knows what they would go for now in the collector market - there were only a few made.
