What kind of knobs did your Travis Bean come with? I've had mine since the 70's but it was used when I got it. It is a natural Koa standard and had clear speed knobs with clear numbers then. I have tried to find them again with no luck so I went with clear with gold numbers. I still have a couple of the originals but they are too loose to use, the others are too damaged. Back in the 80's I was in Idaho Falls on a club tour and the Chesbro Music store had them but I was too short of cash to get them. They were in a little plastic kit with assorted knobs, so maybe some little shop out there still has a set.

I have just recently got my first Bean (TB1000S #1691 in the database) and it has black knobs (slightly wider at the base) with nothing on them and I was wondering the same thing as I've seen so many variations here in pictures. Now I'm left wondering if mine are original. Sorry I'm not really helping with your question but I'm just adding here.

I have serial number 837 TB1000S. It has 2 black knobs and 2 of the clear knobs with clear numbers. I don't know what is original. It is missing the knob on the pickup selector switch. Does anyone know what is original?

Hello Geno
The 2 black knobs are the original. They're known as 'bottle top' knobs, and were manufactured for Travis Bean Guitars.. so they're custom and are really hard to find today. Sometimes you can find those knobs on eBay, but are usually quite expensive.
The pickup selector switch cap is easily replaceable. They used the white cap on that guitar.
Hope this helps. admin

Just trying to educate myself as a relatively new Bean owner. Did the original TB1000S come with 4 of the black "bottle top" knobs, or were the clear knobs with clear numbers also original at some point? I've seen so many variations that I just want to understand what the original set-up was like.
Admin - Your information is a great help. Thanks!

I no longer have any Beans, but I used to have a 1000S and a 2000 and both had Gibson style speed knobs. The black small horn 1000S had clear, and the koa 2000 had black. I think they were both from '77.

Actually, I take that back, my 2000 had black bottle top knobs.
