hello everyone, i recently came upon a mid #1400's tb1000s project, "project" where as its not exactly complete. amoung that, it apears that it was originally a black finish, but someone had begun to sand it down to the bare wood. i wanted to know if i should just finish the body with natural laquer or have the guitar finished black as it came originally? i think it would be easier and look nice if i continued what this yahoo started by going for a natural finish, but i want to know if that would devalue my bean.
-thanks to all

I doubt it matters either way, since it is not the original finish anymore.

If you are trying to do an accurate restoration, then some research may be able to tell you what the original color was for your serial number (i.e. if it truly was black)...and then you can refinish it the same color. It may have more value this way.

If you aren't doing it that way, then make it look like whatever you want, since it is your guitar.

Good luck either way and please post pics when you are done for all to see the results.

wow its been a while since i've been on, but to update on my bean...
i ended up haveing it refinished to natural clear. (i think it looks better) i also found out
it doesnt have the original pick ups and the covers dont say travis bean either, so ...
a #1440's refin with diferent pick ups...its still a bean to me! and its up and running and sounds great which is all i really wanted in the end anyways.
i'll post pictures soon,
tb forever!
