So I played out with my Bean last night (1000 Standard #933) and everything was cool except that after about two songs the darn thing went sharp and I had a hell of time keeping it in tune. I've heard that going sharp can be problem with Beans. Is there a solution? Has anyone tried replacing the tuning pegs? Thanks.

Hi ! was the guitar a bit cold when you started playing ? i have had this problem alot of times , the neck get warmer as you play it and the tuning gets sharp. I always "hug" and warm the neck with my hands for a few minutes before a show and that works great.
fact is that when i warm it up before a show it stays in tune much better then any other guitar i have played.

When I play out, I like to leave my Beans out onstage somewhere discreet whilst the band before us plays, so that it warms up under the stage lights. Then, when it comes time to plug in, they're already nicely warmed up. I also find that they're much better at staying in tune than any other guitars I've played.
I also replaced my knackered tuning pegs on my 500 last year, after one popped off halfway through a set. The new tuners are much smoother, and give far more tuning stability than previously. But if you make sure your guitar is warm before you play, that should be all you need.

did you get new schaller tuners? I've heard mixed reviews on them, and have been looking for a NOS set.

I have the same problem and I can't seem to figure out what it is. Specifically, the G and the B strings are the ones that go out of tune. I heard that it might be the brass nut so I changed to a bone nut and that still hasn't helped. Then I changed to a higher string gauge and that still hasn't helped either. I'm not sure what to do. But if you find out something that works please let me know. Thank you.

My Bean now stays in tune! First I replaced the tuners with nice new Schalers. The new tuners are fine, but the guitar still went out of tune. Next I replaced the nut. Problem solved. The guitar stays in tune beautifully. According to the guitar tech who worked on it, brass nuts often get burrs that grab the string. I ended up replaceing it with bone and doing the whole Buzz Feiten tuning system. It was worth every penny. The guitar sounds fantastic. If you are a stickler for maintaining the original components, I suggest you have someone work on the nut to smooth out the slots. Hopefully that will solve the problem as it did for me. Good luck.

This may seem self-evident, but my bean started slipping out of tune (flat) on the low E, and the fix was as simple as using a hex wrench to tighten the torque on the tuning peg. This was done not by tightening the screw on the tuning peg's head, but by tightening the hex screw on the side of the tuner. No more problems!
