Summer musings with beer in hand:
OK so I just picked up another narrow horn standard and I must say these are my favorites of all the Beans. Something about the proportions and the simplicity of them that really appeals to me. Of course I love anything Travis Bean, but my favorite really is the most common of all models (relatively speaking) koa or painted, they are the coolest guitars on the planet for me. I love the simplicity of the dot markers on the fingerboard and of course the beauty of the polished aluminum neck and how it interlocks with the koa body. Just amazing...The artists are exotic and beautiful, but a standard (especially the early narrow horn version) is just classic American straightforward genius.

i dunno, i now what your getting at, but much as i love the simplicity of the standard, i prefer the artist because it retains the best attributes of the 1000s' simplicity and merely refines these great attributes further - other than gaining the block markers (which i find suit wider necks better than dots which look better on thinner necked guitars such as the 500 IMHO) you are actually losing excess materials by the top carved, and you dont start getting any wank you would with most top of the line guitars such as master volumes, gold hardware, offensively garish finishes etc. The artist to me is not the usual top end guitar with extra bells and whistles, its just a better design i think. a more thought out design - the contours of the body's carved top make them far more comfortable to play than the standard and i say, i dont think that you lose any of the key elements of the standards great simplicity.

Personally I agree with what Holmes just wrote, although I do remember the argument made by some folks, I think by Vincent, that the greater body mass on the Standard, has a heavier sound, especially on the earlier guitars with the thicker body. Any further opinions on that idea?
