How many of you watch HBO's 'The Wire' and think that it is the most compelling and convincing show...ever?

I bought and watched the first two seasons purely on the recommendations of some friends. I thought it was awful. Horrible acting, awful production and even worse writing. Now, Deadwood.... there's the best show ever :)

besides the fact that season 2 was dead I think, The Wire is one of the best things the television has ever yielded hands down.
I made it through Deadwood, but had a hard time getting into it. It was good though. Also found Oz to be rather entertaining, albeit extremely sensationalized.

I have recently moved on to Showtimes Dexter, which I think may have sliced its way to the top of the list-

All these TV series and I wonder why my guitar playing has gone to sh t?

Whoa, sam.

...whoa

I never thought I would hear anyone say something like that :) I was a major subscriber to "Deadwood is the best show ever" for a long, long time. I kept getting badgered by a friend who suggested that The Wire was...and he was a big Deadwood fan too.

The Wire is really great, but nothing (NOTHING) compares to the dialogue and vocabulary in Deadwood. And I'm not just talking about the profanity. I've had almost as much fun reading transcripts of Deadwood episodes as I've had while watching them.

Shoulder, I've seen the first two seasons of Dexter and I really like it too.

My personal favorite is the scene between Wolcott and Tolliver when Tolliver tries to blackmail Mr W. and Mr W. verbally removes his knees.

"Believing yourself past surprise does not commend you to me as a friend. A man inadequately sophisticated, or merely ignorant or simply stupid, may believe himself past surprise, then be surprised to discover, for example, that Mr. Hearst already knows of my inclinations and finds them immaterial. Suggesting, as a corollary, that your skills for blackmail and manipulation no longer are assets to you, and for your fatuous belief in their efficacy, in fact have become liabilities. In short, you've overplayed your hand. Now I should think in consequence, now recognizing yourself as a man past his time, that during this last transitional period you would devote yourself with grateful and quiet diligence to such uses as others may still find you suitable."

Man I wish I could talk like that :)

You could not have picked a finer example.
