hello all,
I was just wondering after reading all those wonderful stories, discussions etc.. if any of you are gigging the Netherlands this year. It would be great to see some Bean action live on stage.
Just let me know if you are there, and I will buy you a beer :)

Cheers!
Rene

Hi Rene,
where in the Netherlands are you? I see that you have some similar guitars as me, I am also Dutch and I used to live in A'dam but now I live in the USA. If I had known you were around when I was still in Holland it would have been great to jam, oh well... jammer.

Hey new territories!
Nice to meet you, gaaf zelfs:)
I am from Rotterdam and was on the transformed dreams label and later coalition records.
Veneus we played that you probably know are the vera, effenaar, paradiso, the old nighttown (it is goine now) and even the old VLERK. Things are changing for the worse here... we have rock academies.. aiaia
many technically good musicians that can cover everything come out of that institute, but there is raraly any originality in their music. and because they are subsidised to play in clubs and hence the clubs are filled with these kind of bands. Luckily there are many people who also miss the days where there were so many good american bands as well as dutch indie bands, so there are some really cool initiatives like www.subbacultcha.nl (or .com).
Right now I have a TB1000s, TB500, EGC standard, kramer 250g, kramer 350g and a kramer DMZ2000, telecaster, gibson SG, Egmond, Hondo !(yeah!) and some modded cheapo guitars. All played through a hiwatt 50/w 4x12" cab, check feverdream website for pics of the gear.
Do you play in bands?and if you ever come back to holland, let1s meet up and do that jam!
I like jamming with Damo Suzuki from former CAN. Do you know his network?
We did soem gigs in the past (one of my favorites was wi-th omar roderiguez (mars volta), charles hayward (this heat) and kwabata (acid mothers temple), me and Damo of course. It was the best because they are great musicians. Now we are planning new shows. You shoyuld contact Damo and set up a jam in the USA,

Laters!

Hi Rene,
I wasn't in Amsterdam too long, just from the fall of 2005 until the fall of 2006- I have been moving around a lot which unfortunately makes it difficult to be in bands for long-term, it is a situation I am starting to dislike so pretty soon I think I will settle down somewhere for a while and get things going- right now I live in Oakland, California, although when I was in L.A. I was in a band called Trap of the trap.
Mostly when I was in A'dam I went to OT301 and this other small venue near the opposite side of the Vondelpark, I can't remember what it was called off the top of my head, alot of punk and weird psychobilly bands were playing there. OT301 is incredible, it was in danger of being shut down right when I left, I hope that it is still there, saw some incredible shows there and watched the 2006 World Cup in the movie theater they have- great memories.
That is incredible that you have played with Damo and Charles Hayward, they are two individuals that I admire a great deal, they have both influenced me, musically, quite profoundly.
I really miss Holland all of the time, but unfortunately my timing in being there was quite poor, oh well-
keep the spirit alive over there, when I am in the area I'll get in touch- if you are ever in California let me know.
groetjes,
Rogier

Oh ja, en ook interessant that you have an Egmond! How are they, I have never played one before-
how are the music stores in Rdam? The best one in Adam, I always thought, was De Plug.
Have you ever been there? It's pretty close to the Rijksmuseum if you are coming from Centraal, behind the back if you walk past and turn right, on the other side of the canal if you walk down- it's on Ruysdaelkade. I loved the location because on the same street there is a fossil store a coffeeshop right next to a small-scale redlight district style prostitution winkel? I don't know how to call it, but it's a nice little route if you are walking from Zuid, which is where I was living at the time. That way if you are showing tourists around you can get a good feel of the city without going into Centraal during the height of the tourist season and see some nice vintage guitars and amps at the same time. Just thinking about it makes me miss Adam that much more.
While I was in Holland though I only saw one aluminum neck and that was a Kramer bass in amusic store in Leiden, right near the train station. I imagine it must be quite difficult to find Aluminum neck guitars in Holland!

Hello again

I know the plug and OT301 for sure. OT301 still does good music and art. It is a great place to be. I used to go more to the occii before. There is also a nice plave called bitetrzoet and de niewue anita. There is a lot of initiatives going on.

In teh last 9 years I found 2 TB500 and 1 TB1000S in teh netherlands and bought them all.
i also found 3 bass guitars here. One is of a friend of mine and teh other two i did not want to buy (stupid, was cheap back then). I found a bout 9 kramers, bought four and sold one again). I keep them because they are too cheap for how cool they are, but they are not my favorite guistars to play. Thye look very nice and are well build.

We are now in the proces of building our own studio and rehearsal room right here in rotetrdam. There are too many professional rock institutes, but too little smaal place where you can make noise for little money. Right now we pay 108 E for 6 hours a week x 4 weeks. To me this is crazy lot of money.. and you always need to practoice on 1 specific day between 18.00 and 24.00
From now on we will have 24/7 space for less money!

If I go to california! it would be awesome to visit you! thanks!
Rene
