This is a cult ¦ I've basically been in TB land for the last few days ¦ reading here ¦ searching there
Anyways, regarding¦
Cases: I've realized that Vincent Gallo most likely has the original Anvil case for Wedge # 29 (I'm sure Vincent is on top of it, but for you other folks, 30 year foam would sure make me nervous) ... I looked in my non-original case w/the tags ($800 w/anvil case and sale $600 w/anvil case) there are three Allen wrenches ¦one big one, another one for the Schaller Tuners and a small one ¦ any idea what the small one is for?
Finish: After asking Mr. Admin to change the Database color from blue to black ¦ I received an email from him about blue pearl ¦ so, today in the bright sunlight I looked at the finish and down deep, you can see blue specks ¦ then reading about the refinishes, I had to take the cover off to see what the paint looked like under the cover ¦ looks original to me
Wiring: After reading about wiring, I was glad to see that yellow and white ¦ additionally, I never noticed or forgot that there is a wire soldered to the pots that comes up to the body so that the plate grounds it (I guess)¦
Pickups: Surprised that the 500's have nice soapbar style pickups ¦ Did not know that (BTW ¦ hey John Verba nice guitar - I like the video ... was that a Twin ¦ after years of using a Tele, I'm still not real comfortable with the Wedge and strap ¦ heavy, nothing to lean your arm or hand on ¦ but your guitar ¦ man, you've sold me on 500's ¦ a working mans guitar) ¦ not much info out there on Wedge pickups ¦ and thank God that I didn't try to take a look years ago ¦ also, in general, what gives with bridge pickups dying first ¦
Pricing: In 77 - 78 Travis Beans were more than a grand ¦ 69 Telecasters were $150 ¦ Strats were $225 ¦ yea I'm dumb for not buying a few ¦ I was going to buy a Strat until a kid wanted me to check out his Tele ¦ he was right ¦ but it kills me that I didn't pick up a P bass for $150 ¦
Surprises: That Mr. Albini has a Bean ¦ I wasn't familiar with his band ¦ but he is my idol with regard to digital recording not being appropriate ¦and Peggy Foster ¦ I bet she has some road stories ¦ come on Peggy, please tell us a road story ¦ any Steve Vai or Runaways stories will do ¦
I got the Wedge because my Les Paul needed work and that Wedge looked like a Les Paul on steroids ¦. Although I love my Tele, I wanted a guitar to compliment my Tele ¦ one that that kills in the Studio or thru a Marshal ¦ (for the studio, I friend loaned me his 71 Green 50w Marshal .. 4/12's with a Power Soak ¦ I only had it for day ¦ so for overdubs, I used my VT 40 wide open ¦)
Finally, I was an LA Cartage guy in the 80's ¦ on a daily basis, I got to set up and play Michael Landau's, Luke's and Dann Huff's guitars thru their rigs ¦ we're talking real nice guitars thru Bradshaw's ¦ (Mike's red Strat was the greatest guitar I ever played)
With that said ¦ My Wedge is awesome ¦ let's compare the Wedge bridge to the three piece bridge on the Tele... which do you prefer ¦ but guess what, if I could only have one ¦ I'd keep the Tele ¦ that's me ¦ I played out ¦ as we use to say ¦ in an original band with my 69 Tele (bridge PU was replaced with the 20th Tele PU that Seymour Duncan made ¦ and wired w/silver wire), early 70's Twin with Celestions G12m-70s w/groove tubes ¦ and my trusty MXR Distortion
Finally, Philly was the place to be in a band in the 80's ¦ this is what it looked like ¦

(PS ¦ my above Travis story actually ends with getting dropped off at the airport and seeing Caesar's Chariot, the former United Airlines Boeing 707 passenger jet, that Led Zeppelin used on the 1977 North American Tour

Oh, Yes, I'm just full of stories. People have told me I should write a book. Some stories and photos are posted on Facebook / Peggy Foster Bassplayer. Some of the music I'm doing now is on My Space / Foggy Pester (the nickname Travis and Marc gave me). I will ask the admin how to upload a photo of a bass that Marc made for me before he and Travis started Travis Bean Guitars. the body was Teak Wood, Marc said it matched my hair. I will try to put it on my Travis Bean Profile page. I think I accidentally have 2 pages here. The one I use is peggyfoster. MTV is making a movie about The Runaways, so people I haven't seen in a long time, and some complete strangers have been sending me photos of me that I've never seen before, including the Teak Bass photo.

I'm so glad you set up this website.
It's a really nice group of people with one common passion.
I've reunited with some old friends here and met some new ones.
Do you think you'll ever have a complete list of Beans & photos with their histories and owners?
Is that your goal?
If so, it is a worthy one and a fun journey along the way.

I hope so, that is the goal. For the most part, people have been incredibly gracious and have added their Bean(s) into the database. We still have a long, long way to go and really need help to complete the listing.

@Vincent ¦ I could not believe I missed you in Philly last week ¦ I will absolutely be there next time - thank you for the very cool case offer, I really appreciate it ¦ If I was going to keep it mint, I would absolutely take you up on the very generous offer ¦ however, since it's now a daily player, the current case is just fine
@Peggy ¦I absolutely loved the black and white photo ¦ extremely cool ¦ and equally as cool is your bass playing ¦ you have an especially killer right hand ¦ I watched the video several times ¦ the bass kind of floats on you ¦ (no Wedge balance issues at all ¦ ) with regard to telling a story or two ¦ although I'm certain you have enough material for a book ¦ may I respectfully suggest that you consider ¦ a "Synopsis of a yet to be written collaborative screenplay" ¦ about some fictional message board of eccentric guitar enthusiasts ¦. (Cult) ¦ a few more characters from central casting ¦and you have it ¦ so, far we have Mr. Admin who has seen it all (can you imagine the emails he gets ¦I just sent him a cool one) ...and please consider me ¦ I would love to be the delusional/Walter Mitty type singer/songwriter ¦

I was looking through some old photos from the 90's, and found a few from the Philly guitar show. Included was a photo of what appears to be # 1705 ¦missing the pickguard/ next to a very cool old guitar ¦ (3/07 - serial # 1705 ...........$2325....(Auction) ...... 3 bids) ¦ I sent the photo to Mr Admin ¦ maybe he'll post it (please)

A few questions ¦
Did Beans come with Allen wrenches ¦ (I had a little one that I couldn't figure out what it was for ¦ until I tried the Saddle ¦
Did all of the models have a Black (blue pearl) option ¦.
Pickups: I have a pretty good understanding now ¦ would still love to see a photo of a Wedge pickup ¦ (a picture is worth a thousand words) ¦ ¦
Didn't the guy form Cheap Trick use to have a few Beans?
¦ missing Wedges ¦ and unusual #'s on some ¦ where are they Australia ¦ I wouldn't be surprised if a neck and pickups were exchanged with a 500 ¦
Just a thought on 80's Bean pricing/popularity ... most people played thru effects and as such used/needed a Strat to cut through it ¦
.. I read somewhere that the Jerry Garcia Band Don't let go (1976) has a great Bean sound .. I can't wait to hear it
Tech Tip: Get good at putting string on ¦ learn to stretch them so they don't go out of tune ¦ first thing I learned about working with guitars in the studio ¦and probably the most important ¦ (I put tons of strings on for sessions ¦ most of the time it was at the shop with no one watching ¦ the most memorable was when I set up Louis Johnson for We Are the World ¦ and in the control room, he asked me if I could put some strings on ¦ (plus we would intonate to the clients feel)
¦ Amplification: In my day ¦ ¦to play out, you basically, needed a clean sound, a rhythm sound and a solo sound ¦ I was around Dumbles ¦ I lived around the corner from Howard's shop, when it was at the Alley in North Hollywood (we had a 50W Overdrive Special Combo that we would rent ¦.I loved that amp) ¦ the day I met Howard, he had Bonnie Raitt's amp in the shop. I got to play tons of Boggies and some very cool modified amps ... but I'll tell you ¦. my friends 71 Green 50w Marshal .. 4/12's with a Power Soak ¦ was something else ¦ for your listening pleasure ¦ check this guy I found on YouTube

I'm still a dinosaur ¦ I still love my Twin ¦ I crank it up and attempt to dial in that Jackson Browne /Boulevard/overdrive sound ¦ for the most part, I'm still a post alternative college radio/Jayhawks meet Michael Penn's No Myth Tele and Twin kind of player ¦
I love my Wedge ¦(until two weeks ago, I'd play it a few times a year ¦ and thought my Tele was worth twice as much) .. it's got such a killer tone .. and it's just so freakin well made ¦it's got to be one of the best playing guitars I've ever played ¦ ¦ tons of tones at different volumes with both pick ups on
With all my recent Wedge playing ¦. I appreciate my Tele ever more ¦ all I do is want to play ¦ I feel like 25 again ¦ as soon as the wife walks out the door ¦ I fire up the Twin and alternate playing the Wedge ¦ then the Tele ¦ just marveling at/comparing and contrasting the shear bite/tone ¦ I love digging it out (no medal pick needed) to get the nastiest wolf tones out of the bridge pickups on both guitars and jamming/playing along to songs (current favorite is Aimee Mann's Freeway) ¦¦ Wedge ¦ Tele ¦ back and forth ¦ adjusting/dialing it in ¦ just digging the tone ¦ again and again until my dog ¦ (that likes to lay outside the door when I play), alerts me to that fact that my wife has just pulled in the drive way ¦ (it's not that she isn't cool with me playing guitar ¦ she only has a problem when it's real loud)
