I have the opportunity to buy a tb2000 for 3000 dollars. Its black with imron coated neck. Only two original knobs and two new screws in the bridge. Body is quite worn, the wood is showing in places. I also think there is very low output from the neckpickup. Is this how it should be or is there a problem with the pickup? Should i buy it anyway?

Should mention that i am new member of the forum and have never been member of a forum before! I have never owned a Travis Bean and have been satisfied with my rickenbacker. I just fell for it (the TB) when i "met" one. I played it only for a few moments and thats why i need your advice! I´m from sweden so my spelling may be crappy, be gentle!

3000.00 is a bit much especially for a run of the mill TB2000.

If you wait youll most likely find one cheaper or at least one without any problems for that price or cheaper.

The pickup can be rewound easily.

Best of luck on it.

Thanks! Very good to know that about the pickup. This is centainly a longshot but if someone is sitting around in Sweden with a TB2000 that they want to part with for under 3000 dollars just let me know!

Eken,

I just got one off ebay last month for $1850. Beat up and all, but it sounds and plays great. Just be dedicated by searching every day, have some patience and you'll see them pop up on for around $2000. $3000 in my opinion is too much to pay right now unless it's a rare painted finish in totally mint original condition, original case, etc.

I would think the amount of TB2000 basses in Sweden would be about 3, if even that many. Shipping a bass from the USA to Sweden you will have to pay shipping cost on a heavy bass and if anything like the UK where I live you will also be charged a large amount for import tax.

There is a TB2000 in the Netherlands for sale in the Wanted/For Sale Message Board. I would go for this if the price and condition is OK as the shipping cost to Sweden from the Netherlands would much, much cheaper than shipping from the USA and they would be no import duty to pay. I would go pick it up in person as it is a short flight.

what currency does sweden use?

hard to gauge sometimes because the dollar is worth so little and it takes so much time to make so few of them.

$3000 is at or above a U.S. retail store price for a TB2000. I think anyway, maybe I'm just not very clear on their value. It seems like alot to me.

The currency in Sweden is the Swedish crown (SEK).

I decided to buy the bass and made a downpayment yesterday. Considering the import tax and shipping cost that i would have to pay (like what Wade was onto) i´d probably not get under 3000 dollars anyway. The guy at the guitarshop is going to make pickup adjustments also. Seems like one is set a little high therefore the difference in output volume. Its #959 by the way. I´m picking it up tomorrow. Can´t wait!!!!!

Hey, good move buying that bass since it is a black one! The black Beans are the coolest IMHO and much more rare than the standard Koa types. Even with wear and tear, I think you did OK on that deal...how about some photos?

Greetings! I am still in shock! Got the bass yesterday and today i played it out in our studio ( me and my brothers). I have never heard or played anything like it and it was flawless in recording, and the sustain! I will try to put some phothos up on the database (#959) as fast as possible ( i´m bad with computers so i´ll put my hacker brother on the case). The bass was worth every penny, no regrets whatsoever from this not so rich guy, and thank you all for answering my add.

hey eken,

apologies for my transgression-- the bass looks great! the photos don't focus on any wear, but it's not nearly as bad as i expected from your first post. i really like the black on black look from the imron coating. nice bass!

Thanks! My bad I guess. My paranoid mind must have made me think that it looked worse than it really did. When I saw it the second time I almost thought it was a different bass. According to the salesman it had been hanging in the store for several months...lucky for me they don´t have a webpage!

Hmm, i bought a TB500 for 1700 dollars in sweden a while back. and about the total amount of tb basses in sweden being 3, I alone know two guys who own 2 TB2000 basses each, who got them here in sweden for about 1000 bucks each. 3000 felt a bit over the top but i guess they´ve increased in value like hot potatoes these last years.
amazing.
