http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB.....l?ViewItem&item=931181087 It's a very pretty guitar but the Sn is way out of wack. Anybody know anything about this one?

It looks legit -- it's got the characteristics of the earliest 500s: the body shape, the pickups and pickguard. This is just a guess, but maybe it's one of the very first 500s -- the SN could've just been a takeoff point from the other production numbers at the time. I DON'T think it's a later guitar or a standard neck or anything like that.

I mailed the guy and asked him if he's right with serial number. He replied that he knows it's very crude but that's the number. The Kaman article says, after TB closed, 30 necks and a lot of bodies were auctioned/sold. Maybe the guitar was assembled later with those parts?

i suspect the guitar was stolen and the serial number tampered with (hence the crude appearance.) the serial number of a model 500 of this shape should be between 11 and 20.

there's that goofy 500 appearing on ebay again. this guy claims everything's stock - NOT! it's harder to find something that IS stock on this frankenbean.

I welcome anyone in california to come see this guitar for yourself and show me any and all evidence that the guitar is not stock in anyway. The guitar was originally offered on ebay about 4 years ago by the aforementioned Adrian Legg at which point he explained what I explain in the auction, he ordered it from the TB factory w/ the additional switch and no black paint. It was bought by an english guitar shop and then sold to a nice German friend of mine who has a high end Eyewear shop here in Santa Monica who I got it from , I will find out the name of the store if you like. I will bet real money that anyone who sees this guitar will not only stop doubting but will have to take their jaws off the ground. It's as beautiful as a Bean can be, and clean as a museum piece. By the way standard necks wouldn't fit on any tb500, it's a physical impossibility anyone that has owned both would know that. ps that switch is wonderful and does tons to further the tonal range of this guitar, after playing this I wondered why it wasn't a standard feature. It's not just a phase reversal because it works on every setting. thanks feel free to ask me anything.

Sorry, I just checked the old auction again. Is there any story why the SN is 632. The appearance of this guitar fits perfectly with the pre production guitars 11 thru 20. After that they all had the bigger stylized pick guard, the thinner bodies, and imron coated necks. And the SN's for 500's ended around 355. I don't know about the second switch, but that really dosent matter in a piece this rare, its the sn thats weird. Anyway its a beautiful guitar. Good Luck with the auction.

The whole SN# thing is a tad sketchy, but don't you guys figure that using escrow would protect the buyer?
