I'v heard of coating the neck with lear lacquer. What I've been wanting to know about is the clear coating that's used in the automotive aftermarket for protecting aluminum wheels, valve covers, carburetors and the like. Does anyone know anything about this? How economical is it? Does the finger board need to be removed?

You can use the product that Travis recommended called Nev'r Dull. Comes in a can. It's a woolish type of material that's impregnated with a metal polish. You rub it on the neck, the neck starts to get "wet" and grey, and then you use a dry towel to wipe off the dirt from your hands that's built up. Might have to repeat the process 2 or 3 times if it's real dirty, but eventually your neck will be restored to a *mirror* finish. I actually hate doing that, because it becomes near impossible to slide your hand up and down the neck without your skin catching on the now "squeaky clean" neck.
