i was just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem?
i have been playing my TB constantly in my bands for over a year now... i really do not want to play on any other kind of guitar b/c i do not feel comfortable playing on anything else (i can assure you, i have tried gibson les paul's, fender-anything), nothing compares to a TB... i am really worried because i only have one TB, and i am sure that there will be the one idiot in the audience who knows what it is worth, and WILL get it from me (never underestimate the power of a theif!!!).
so what do i do? do i break my ass saving for a new one (a beater that will do), and kill myself saving for my tour? or do i just play on a ******* gibson?

Hi David, I can relate to your concern! But not playing your Bean at gigs is like letting terrorists change our way of life. I'd say between sets put the Bean in it's case and stash the case somewhere hard to get to without being obvious, like behind the drums or depending on what the setup is like.
Or, you could handcuff yourself to the guitar or the case and keep it with you...

i just aquired myself a tb2000 and i know what you mean.i just played a show with it,for the first time recently.im so scared if i tour,or ANYTHINg i will lose my bass to someone who knows how rare these things are.what i did ,was i didnt take my guitar out of my car trunk until we played(it was COLD).i had to tune it for awhile,.,but im glad didnt just leave it in the clubs" equipment area".after the show the first thing i took with me was my bean.locked it in my car.and SAT IN MY CAR.until i had to leave .paranoid,yes.wouldnt you be?

Hmmm... My only bass is a TB2000 and I'll be touring a few months this year. I guess I'll just need to be careful.

The reality is, most people think TBs are Kramers. Who wants a Kramer?
Just make sure you know where yr. guitar is at all times and don't leave it in the vehicle overnight unless necessary. Also, don't leave it anywhere near a door.

If you really dont feel comfortable playing anything else then you have to gig it really. Youre just gonna have to take extra special care of it at gigs....I think if I were that worried that if I wasn't playing it I would put it in its case and carry it around with me.
I've retired my Bean now....It just hangs on the wall looking pretty :-)

why did you retire your bean? You actually found another bass that has a more pleasing sound? Please do tell what type of bass that might be.

i would espically like to thank "linc."
you are right, i am probably over-reacting. in any case, it is not the guitar that is important, it is the music!!! a travis bean is just an insturment; if you do not have the means by which you express yourself on your "insturment," then you will never feel yourself, and you will NEVER feel your insturment.
i can tell you, I DO feel my music, and i DO feel what i want i want to accomplish...
i will succeed... with or without a TB!!!

i think that you can't get too paranoid at a show, because anything can be stolen from anywhere. i actually had my tb2000 stolen on easter of this year out of my apartment and had to track it half way across the country. so while there are precautions to take to keep it as safe as possible, you can't kill yourself over it. thanks again jake for the safe return of my bass, i owe you. i even wrote a song to the theif who stole it. the first words are "i wanted you to die"

Given the wonderful design of this instrument, you're lucky. Here's a trick that I used on the road:
1. Get a heavy bike chain. Only need 5 or 6 links of it.
2. Padlock one end link of the chain to an immovable part of your van (bottom of a seat, steering wheel, etc.)
3. Padlock the other side of your chain to the top of the Bean headstock.
If you keep that think in a zippered gig bag (ugly, I know, but allowing sufficient access for the chain) and put some type of padding between the padlock and the headstock, that guitar is going nowhere.

i have found that most people don't even know what it is. i would be more worried if it were a gibson or fender. sometimes owning a rare guitar is a plus.

i had more problems with temperature fluctuations than with thieves. there were numerous curious types who had no clue what it was, but thought it looked cool. my best advice is to not leave it in your vehicle at night.
