Hi there..
I own TB2000 482, which is in its original koa finish. I would like to gig this guitar - I've recently been recording with it for the first time and it's stood up really well. Call me a heathen but I have something of an aversion to the 70s 'prog-rock' koa finish and I'm wondering if it's acceptable to put together a refinish in black or somesuch in order to make a it a little more streamlined. What colours are deemed as sympathetic and what might be the average hit I might take on value with a refinish? Can anyone recommend someone in the UK who could do a sympathetic job?

I have a similar query (sorry not to be of any help)
I have just purchased a TB2000 (mainly thanks to this forum) and its decribed in the database correctly as 'well played' I have no intention to sell this but would it be worth having it refinished and if so would I be better off having it refinished as original or in a custom colour.
I am also in the UK so any guidance would also be appreciated.

The general consensus about "collectible" guitars -- which these are, for better or worse -- is that you should never refinish if the finish is original. There are plenty of refins out there, so if you want a different color, sell yours for more money and buy a different one that's already non-original. Some folks will disagree... they are 1970s guitars, not 50s guitars after all. But you will lose a lot of value right away if you refinish.
