Today is a sad day. Travis Bean passed away in Burbank, California. Rita, his wife, was notified at 6:15AM PST that her husband had passed. He was struggling for some time with cancer and kidney failure. My thoughts go out to you, Rita and to your family.

Travis.. you will be greatly missed.

Rest In Peace

I'm sorry for your loss, Hank. I'm happy you befriended Travis, and I'm happy that you've been working your ass off trying to get his story out there, ensuring that he'll always be more than a footnote in the history of the electric guitar. Think I'll go play my Travis Beans right now...

Spoke with Rita Bean tonight, she wanted me to pass this message on to everyone.

"Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. I very much appreciate it."

Oh no, no, no. I am unspeakably sad. I've known Travis & Marc since I was a teenager. Poor Marc will be inconsolable but I'll call him anyway. Rita told me that Travis didn't have much time left, there was nothing I could to change that, and no way for me to prepare myself to live in a world that doesn't have Travis in it.
Hank, I'm sooooo glad that you put together the Reunion a few years ago in Burbank; his spirits and health picked up, he got to see all those people who were there in the trenches with him at the Travis Bean factory, and we all got to see him, and each other.
I am one sad girl.

I was thinking of you as well when I wrote my first post, Peggy. Sorry you lost a friend today. It is great that you got to know him, and yes, it's great that he was able to see pretty much everyone again at the reunion. To me, that's the coolest thing about the documentary.

I think the greatest thing someone can hope for is to leave a legacy behind after they pass, and Travis sure as hell did that.

Thank you Travis for your fine design and craftsmanship, and that of the crew you assembled. Your blessed work certainly enriched my life immeasurably. Apologies for not getting this heartfelt sentiment out sooner.

R.I.P. Mr. Travis Bean. A true gentleman indeed. I will always remember that NAMM show when Travis and his wife unveiled his comeback guitars (I'll have to dig up the pictures and post them here). I quietly introduced myself to "the man" and showed him some pictures of my collection. He actually lead me away from the booth to sit down and look carefully at my pictures and with each guitar started to tell me a story and share the memories. A good 45 minutes later, he lead me back to his booth, took out a dremel and engraved his name on the backplate of #11 to me. Told me to" hang on to that one, it's a winner" and I have.

A very sad loss to the guitar world.

Peter

Thank you Travis for making such wonderful instruments. Your legacy will be the music played on these instruments for years and years to come.

There will never be any more real Travis Bean guitars made.

I can't help but feel there is a tragic element to the Travis Bean story. Given how great Travis Bean guitars and basses are, his company should have been a much bigger success. He should have been able to make many more instruments. Was he ahead of his time? Maybe. Was he a lousy business man? I don't know. Regardless, given the quality of what he produced, he deserved better.
