Hello everyone.

I recently received an EGC Standard Bass but it's just not for me. Got it from Kevin in early September, used it during 2 practices, and was very careful to wipe it down after using it so it's still in near-new shape. It never left the studio.

I'm interested to hear any offers before I put it up on eBay.

Here are a few crappy pics - I do have better ones...just need to find them..and would be glad to send them along.

Thanks!

I am curious to know why the bass is not right for you? I have been thinking about ordering one for years, but I have never played one. Anything you can share about the sound and feel would be appreciated. I play a TB2000 and always wonder how these compare. Assumed they are perhaps brighter or more biting. It looks great!

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry I was so vague there - I hope I'm not discouraging anyone from ordering an EGC!

The standard bass is a beast - I would say it probably weighs 14 or 15lbs - and was absolutely killing my back and shoulder. So, my weakness, not the bass at all.

It also tended to neck dive a bit because of the short horn. I tried compensating with a wider strap (I normally use 3" straps and bought a 4") and while that helped with the neck dive, it still put a lot of pressure on my shoulder and back.

I'm not the most fit of human beings, but after switching back to my Vaccaro X-Ray bass it felt like a feather and I think it clocks in around 9lbs.

Since I posted that I have been in touch with Kevin and he is going to make a new wood body for me so I'm officially taking this EGC off the market.

As far as tone and sound, the EGC is everything I wanted and then some. Super bright, loud, and biting as you said...it puts my other basses to shame. Kevin's pickups are just so hot I had to turn my master volume down from it's normal 3pm position back to 12 or 1pm in order to keep the peace in the studio (if I'm too loud then my guitarist overcompensates and before you know it all we're making is a lot of noise!).

I've owned 2 wedges and while I didn't have this bass around to A/B against the wedges, the sound of Kevin's Standard is what the wedge was and then some. I also prefer his neck and the radiused fretboard over the wedge baseball bat neck profile and zero radius fretboard.

Get that order for your EGC in! If I had ordered a more traditional body type with a longer horn the bass probably would have been more forgiving on my body and shoulder.

Kevin is so easy to talk to and is very honest and forthcoming about his work and really goes above and beyond. Once we finally spoke about the trouble I was having he offered to build a new body for it.

Hope this helps!
John

That definitely answers my questions. Thanks for taking the time.
