Has anyone on this board bought one of the new travis bean basses being sold on ebay? I'm curious how they sound in comparison to the original TB 2000. Please chime in.

i actually went to the seller's house to check them out. their output is lower than the originals (Carvin pickups), resulting in a more subdued sound. their action needed much work as well. however, i must say that the back of the bass is beautiful - the entire back is polished aluminum. Travis used a much lighter type of aluminum, and thus the bass weighs much less. i would say the newer basses are well worth their novelty value, and with some work, should be killer instruments too.

the new basses are amazing. i own number 3. the pickups are weak but i changed them to seymour duncan hot stacks and the bass now sings. the bass is hollow inside so you can do alot of cool things with it. the machining is amazing. it is a work of art. the actual aluminum weighs only 3-4 lbs. the top is very heavy in comparison. my top is numbered 6 but the body is 3. but they made two number 5s so its a mystery. i was also told that travis numbered them on the spot when the guy bought them. so number doesnt really matter much. the only thing that matters is that you have one. i put a brass nut on also. i saved all the original pieces. in my opinion. they blow the old basses away. you can get so many sounds out of them because its hollow. my only complaint is that i wish it was string through. from the inside it would have been possible but oh well it still is great. i will be posting some pics soon. email me with any questions. and keep in mind these where prototypes thats why the pickups sucked and the nuts where not finished on all 6....these are not a novelty, in fact, they are quite impressive and are the most incredibly constructed instruments i have ever seen. and thats not just because i own one. ps....i have no info on the guitars but the 12 of them are floating around somewhere (at least thats what travis said).
