I have recently acquired a Travis Bean bass guitar that I plan on putting on eBay. Information on these guitars seems to be pretty rare online. If anyone here can pass along any info on this bass (value, history) it would be greatly appreciated. I will also entertain offers on the bass here before listing on eBay. Thank you everybody!!

Here is a link to the bass guitar in question:

The number "21" is engraved just below the T on the head.
Thanks again!
Ryan

The advertisment seems to be cutting off the link to the picture.

Here is is again broken down with each "/".

that is a tb4000 has been messed with - those scaloped sides shouldn't be there!
some closer images to see if they're the original pick ups and the body finish (has it been sanded or refinished?) etc. would be appreciated.
it's listed in the database on this site too, tb4000 #21.
it's a really rare model, just 36 made in all, but it has to be worth far less than if in all original condition.

If it was in near original condition you could get a decent amount for it, maybe $4500 or more on a good day. But there has obviously been something done to the body and the finish doesn't look quite natural. Also if the original travis bean pickups aren't there it would take away a lot from the value. One of the main things people seek out beans for is their pickups (besides the neck) because they are pretty unique in their tone. Good luck in finding a buyer, I'd like to see some more pictures put up.

I remember when that was on ebay about 6 months ago. Broke my ******* heart to see that someone carved those stupid semi-circles in to the sides of it. "Damnit, if I try to play this sittin' down, it slides off muh damn leg! I'ma cut me a leg hole innit, so as to keep it from slidin' Now wait uh minnit... now it jus don't look right. I know, I'ma cut another one innit, so it matches. Otherwise, it's gonna look stupid." *sigh*

I remember it had been listed by one of those places that sells things for people on ebay. From the look of your email address, I take it you're the guy that listed it and you bought it from the owner, or you're another place the owner brought it to, since the first place couldn't get rid of it, right?

I guess there's a positive side to this... At least we know that there are as many as 35 TB4000 basses out there that are in original condition, and the value of them just went up a *little* bit more now that we know there aren't 36 in original condition.

Oh, by the way: The pickups and bridge are both original. The body has been stripped of it's paint, which would probably have been Black, White, or Red. There might be some paint left inside the control cavity if you open it up. I don't think you'll get much for it on ebay , since a TB "wedge" bass with semi-circles cut in to the side of the wedge is pretty much like cutting one of the horns off a "flying V" guitar, making it look like this: / instead of: V

Maybe someone will buy it as a "project guitar" and carve a new body for it.

We are the same company that listed the guitar 6 months ago. I actually started working here 3 months ago so this is why I was unaware that it was already listed. I am going to put the guitar on eBay starting at $1.00. We will see where it goes. It is a shame that it was modified, the guy who did so must have been a lunatic. Since we are an insurance liquidation service and we receive all of our items with little history, it is hard to tell exactly what the story is behind this ex-beautiful guitar. I find pleasure in being able to play a guitar so rare. If anyone is interested in checking the listing on eBay, send me an email and I will send you a link. Thanks for everything guys!
