Just saw a standard with a built in preamp and extra toggle switch-later model -does anyone know if TB did that or if it was just a mod by one of the owners...thanks

Almost certainly an owner mod. Active electronics were viewed as gimmickry at best; unreliable & unnecessary at worst. There was a prevailing purist ethos that such things actually detracted from what made the TB so unique. Namely, its stellar, bell-like tone which was integral and not at all synthesized. Hard to argue with TB on that. His instincts on such matters look increasingly wise with the passage of more & more time.

Very interesting! I have a TB1000s with a built in pre-amp. If this was not done at the factory, it must have been done by a luthier. I just figured it was done at the shop because of the quality of the job.
