No fret wear. Little used, all original, with case. 2 dings on front of body from when my snotty stepson knocked over the guitar stand. Need the cash to pay off a blood-sucking divorce lawyer, and I just got laid off. Opens at $3900.00 I can only hope it goes higher. I took pics of the details in the photo gallery, didn't even wipe the dust off; has dings I wasn't aware of but still prettier than I remembered. Still plays perfectly, neck is perfect. BIdding starts tomorrow Friday 1/9/2009 at 10 AM pacific time.

hey cyclecamper...nice looking artist and a reasonable price. Sorry for putting my nose in your business, but I must comment on the following quote in your listing:
"It's beautiful now, but for a minimal cost you could refinish the body with a new clear and have it in absolutely perfect 10 condition as-new and double your money on this, but I'm selling it all-original."
The original finish regardless of what condition it's in will always be worth more than a refin. Besides the original finish on your artist is perfectly fine...shows a few mild battle scars, but some of us like that anyway. You have no reason to make excuses about the finish on that guitar....and just in case you were thinking about it....PLEASE DO NOT REFINISH OR EVEN REBUFF THAT GUITAR!!! You would actually cut the value drastically by doing so. In fact refins are generally considered to be worth about half what an original finish vintage guitar would be worth...in some cases even less than half.

I'm not really as stupid as I sound and agree completely. I hope I do sound naieve in the ad LOL. Low-deee-dow, low-deedee I found it in the back of the barn in a dirty old Bugatti where uncle louie left it 20 years ago when he died...next to his Vincent Black Shadow and a pile of IPO Microsoft preferred. I didn't compose the ad well, I'm not in the business.
It's actually nicer than the pics, and I can take better pics and send them direct if anyone's serious. But I did cry when my step-son dinged it, things like that don't usually happen to my guitars. And there are those unscrupulous souls who would refinish it to make it perfect and undetectable, then ask double. I hope there's a buyer out there who's not suffering from the economic downturn as bad as I am. Mainframe business has been shrinking for a long time now.
So BID already please! Thanks! BTW it plays GREAT, this one does work like new.
Once upon a time I sold a pre-CBS '50's red metalflake strat for the outstanding remainder of my college tuition bill: about $125. With case. Perhaps worth $3500 now. I got an even better return on the education, but it's obsolete now. But I liked my '50's slab-body melody maker better.
I just hope the Travis goes to someone who will play it and not trash it.

The bright natural sunlight really penetrates the finish and shows up every single ding, and some reflections and wood grain look like marks but aren't. It's really not that bad. I sould take better pics.
Prettiest guitar I ever had personally was a Walnut Les Paul Recording with narrow binding. But nobody ever figured out how to get the big low-impedance pickups to rock out, would have been good for the correct buyer, but it was traded around between friends until I lost track of it.

question is whether the knobs are original. My travis bass has the more normal knobs for a Travis. I was told they were, according to the original owner, what do you guys think?

no bids at 3900!? There was a VG condition imron artist that went for only 4K a few months back. It was only a year ago that I saw a VG condition koa standard go for 4k. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

A local drove down to check it out and liked it. I found him without eBay. I gave him a really great deal and he went away happy. I know I could have gotten 2 grand more by waiting for my price, but I had bills and this really worked out wll for us both, as I paid only the listing insertion fee and avoided the final sale fee and the paypal fee, no hassles shipping.
On the down side, I wanted to demo it for him. My Alembic preamp hadn't been used in many years and doesn't even power up, red LED light doesn't come on, not the fuse, perhaps the power electrolytics are shot or the line cord plug itself.. Peavey Valverb seems to have the reverb tube non-functional too. Sheesh. At least the Travis will get played.

what makes you think you could have gotten more than 3900 for it? it sat on ebay with no bids ZERO with no reserve. I have not seen a normal artist trade above 4k in a while. I would love to see the price of these things keep dropping and completely fall out of fashion like a pair of pleated stone washed jeans.

I'd say you did the right thing....cash is king right now. You would have needed to get almost $4300 to cover the ebay fees to clear 4k and then you would also have a Paypal record that gets reported to our new Travis Bean fan Barack Obama and his pals at the IRS.

why would I like to see prices fall? So all the fat nicotine stained mustache wearing guitar dealers will have to get jobs at Red Lobster. So they will fall out of the hands of the decrepit old collectors and into the hands of bus boys and high school students. My thoughts are not rational but that is just how I feel. It finally feels like the gold rush is over and I am sooooo glad.

I said that I could have gotten more for it if I hadn't ended it early because I got two higher offers after ending it. first was $5500 and the next said he'd better that. Some serious bidders use sniping sites like bidnip just to not tip their hand. And I didn't have a reserve, but I did have a minimum...not that I ever really understood the difference. It went to a good home. So somebody please bid on my bass now LOL. Hard when there's another bass listed, this one may take a while but I really don't want to let the bass go cheap.

your guitar sat on ebay at 3900 WITH NO RESERVE and you did not get a single bid. one bid would have taken it home for 3900. Why would some one offer you 5k when NO ONE wanted it at 3900? My favorite part was when you said "refinish this guitar and double your money!!!!" In guitar 101 they teach you that a refinish always devalues the guitar. How is it that some one who knows so little about guitars and ebay has two beans???

Many serious eBay bidders use sniping software which places their bid in the last few seconds of an auction. My auction wasn't posted very long, I got inquiries from here, and there may well have already been snipes set to fire at the last minute. But an on-site cash deal is hard to beat.
