And almost Happy New Year to everyone, here in Australia. You can tell when I'm on holidays because I actually have time to look around this site! Speaking of which, I notice that the first photo of Wedge #39 in the photo gallery is one I took years ago as a Uni. student on my back balcony in a little share house in Carlton, Melbourne! (It was actually 64 Faraday St. Carlton - which if you are also on holidays, and can be bothered typing into Google Maps, you can see - you just need to hit the left arrow once you're on Street View - it's the tiny little narrow double story terrace house behind the ute (pickup truck). I don't think any students in Melbourne could afford a Wedge these days - and to think we (waystolive and I) had two at the time! One was a red one which waystolive found in a local guitar store (believe it or not) for about $US 600 at the time. (must have been about '96?) Ah, nostalgia - probably shouldn't have sold them, eh - but what are you gonna do ...

Happy New Year Phil ¦. With regard to the Wedge #39 photo in the gallery ¦ (thanks to Google maps/Street View) there's something very cool knowing where the photo was taken ¦ so, am I to understand that you or your friend were the previous owner ¦(did you take the other photos) ¦ pretty wild you and your friend controlled approximately 8.6% of the Wedge market at that time ¦ what's even crazier for me is that in a previous post, I LAPCTindicated the following "¦¦ missing Wedges ¦ ¦ where are they Australia" Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Men at Work and Midnight Oil (Forgotten Years, Blue Sky Mine & Beds are Burning)

Yes, we were the previous owners - I think that photo might actually have been taken c. '99? That particular Wedge had a coil splitter, from memory. The red one was a slightly heavier guitar, but had amazing tone - almost up there with waystolive's rather amazing black TB Standard (there's something special about that guitar!). We had all sorts back then - 500s, pearl blue and white Artists, basses, you name it! There comes a point though, we you realise they need to be moved on if what you're ultimately interested in is playing music. The question came up one night - how many beans do we need to make a recording or play a show? I did like those wedges for both purposes, though! It still amazes me how much vintage guitars went up in that time - not just beans, mind you, certain Gibsons and others skyrocketed too. I doubt anyone would be paying 20k for a wedge today if you could buy a top notch 100% original '56 LP standard for the same dollars (which you could at the time we owned ours).
