I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this is not the original body. After years of seeing well over a couple hundred artsists, two things immediately jump out at me: 1) this is a 3 piece body. You can see the line where the body was constructed in 3RDs at the top (bottom of photo) 2) I have seen SO MANY artists that the contour on the horns is just not right....it does not look anything like all the others I have seen. I have studied these photos and the contour is just not the same as others. I believe they were hand carved and each one is different, but this one is WAY different and just does not look right.
The line where the 3-piece body was constucted is the dead give-awary. NO Travis Beans are made in 3 pieces, all are two pieces and the line cxommonly shows up at the middle of the guitar. I hope I am wrong for the sake of the owner...this is an opinion. Please don't be mad for me stating this.....Anyone else think I am nuts??

Ahem.....Actually there were alot of three piece body Beans made. Especially later versions. I have seen photos of koa three piece artists and standards on ebay and elsewhere. I have also seen photos of two painted standards with three piece bodies. The seams start to show as the finish ages. I'm sure other observant Bean fans will back me up on this.

The carved top looks legit to me.
Prior to the skyrocketing prices of the last five years, it seems like it would be more work than it is worth to fabricate one of those bodies.

There were in fact many three piece bodies made. This is the earliest production number that I have noticed.

This is a replacement body put on an older guitar. At the end there were left over bodies. The size of this body would be consistent with a guitar made much later than the neck serial would indicate. There were travis bean bodies made from more than two pieces, much later in production.

TBGURU, This couldn't be one of the left over bodies, they are too thin to fit onto an early SN neck. That and it has the narrower horns of the early beans.
My guess is at worst its a refinish.

Ezra your eyes are playing tricks on you. This is a wider horned body on an old neck. There was a time when the bodies stayed thick and the horns got wider. Look at the size of the pickup in relation to the horns. Plain to see.

Beautiful guitar! Weird that it's such a low # for a wide-horn Artist, though?
