I was changing strings and the brass nut popped off my neck. I polished it up, it has an unlike metal on one side, aluminum to brass, and another on the other, steel or nickel strings to brass. Lots of potential for galvanic action. It seems to me that the attachment of this piece is critical to the tone. Does anybody have advice on what to reattach it with?

I'm chiming in here because if there's an answer, I want to know too as this happened with my Artist when I last changed strings. I let the string tension hold it but then if it slips one way or the other (and you have to work to do that) the tuning has instantly gone awry. I'd love to get mine properly affixed too!

When I asked Travis this question (May He Rest In Peace.)he said "Any type of quality Super Glue will work."I was fixing a fingerboard that had came unglued and the Super glue worked fine.

A lot of luthiers use CA (Cyanoacrylate) glue. I know that Travis preferred "Hot Stuff" CA glue. Not sure if they used that back in the day, but he used it for later guitar work. CA glue is basically super glue, but you can get it in different consistencies. Here is a link to Stew Mac's CA glue kit:

This is nice since you get thin and medium flow glues with the glue accelerator. You also get some nozzles and pipette applicators, etc. The repair should be super simple.. just a couple of drops would do it. This glue kit would be nice to have around the home or shop. I think simple Super Glue would work well. That is probably a medium type flow vs. thin, but that shouldn't matter for this type of repair. I would call a few luthiers to see what they say too.
Also, you can pick up CA glue at hobby stores as well.

HI,
I like super glues for the nut.... I use it on aluminum and wood. Super glue is thin, so you just use a little drop and it holds well and the nut makes good contact with neck. You only need the glue to keep the nut from sliding side to side anyway.
