Hi there!
I bought my TB1000S new in 1977. I used it for quite a few years, and then lent it to a friend's son for a few years. When I got it back, the bridge pickup is totally dead. It seems like these pickups are encased in epoxy on the inside, or something. True? Can you get these rewound, and if so, do they sound like they did originally?

Some of the real experts on this site may have a different take, but my first thought is that the pick-up (winding, magnets, etc.) itself is unlikely to fail completely as you have described. It sounds more like a bad wire or solder connection or volume pot or tone pot. I would take the guitar to good technician before re-winding the pickups.

You can try contacting Phil J. Petillo. He designed the Kramer aluminum neck guitars. Perhaps he may have some contacts or info for you to aid in repair of Travis Bean pickups.....worth a shot. I would bet they are similar.

What kind of damage does it have? Did you try measuring the pickup DC resistance with a DMM? Do you get an open, short, or some value?
If you do decide to take it apart yourself, please post pics for the rest of us to see.

I've been told that Lindy Fralin has rewound a couple Bean pickups. It might be worth a shot to give him a call.

HI,
I have 2 TB pickups that belong to a customer of mine. They were DOA when I got them and he had me send them to Lindy Fralin. They came back, they look and sound great. He wax potted them. I would send him pickups again if I had some that needed work. I can also rewind pickups, but I have no idea what wire to use. So, why not send them to someone who knows what's what.
