I'm trying to figure out if my Travis Bean bass is short scale or not, it always seemed a lot shorter than a normal bass. The measurement from the nut to the centre of the 12th fret is 16 inches. How does this compare to a normal TB2000?

hey i was going to start this same thread topic - because the info i've read is there were a few 30" short scale basses and the rest are 34".

if i measure mine from the face of the nut to the middle of the 12th fret, it's a shade over 16.5" which would be a 33" scale. if yours is right at 16", that would make it a 32" scale. anyone else have different scale lengths?

here's a 'fret calculator' at stewmac - http://www.stewmac.com/FretCalculator

The scale length of a standard TB2000 is 34 1/2 inches.

All of the guitars were 24 3/4 inches.

Oh, and I took that info from the Travis Bean Spec sheet that I saved a jpg of years and years ago.

Not sure if it's 100% accurate, since it says that the TB2000 only has 1 tone control.

Here's the image:

Alright, I just went and measured my TB2000 and TB4000. I've never measured them before, because I've never really cared what the scale length was.

Both measure 16 and 1/8th inches to the 12th fret, so apparently they're 32 and 1/4 inch scale.

*shrug*

So if a few of us are under the standard 34.5" scale length, does that mean we each have one of the 12 short scale basses that were produced?

huh, maybe. but I thought that short scale usually refers to about a 30". I have two short scale basses (not Beans!) and they both feel significantly and obviously smaller than a standard bass, in a way that any bass player would notice just picking them up. I guess we need everyone to go measure their basses now!

No.

32 1/4th has to be the standard scale length, since my wedge and standard are both that size. There were no short scale wedges made.

a couple of photos - tape measure starting at the face of the nut (where the string stops moving, if that makes sense). it measures 16 5/8" which would be a 33 1/4" scale length - same as a rickenbacker bass.

am i measuring the scale length correctly?

Alright, so I just went back and measured my TB2000 with a tape measure, and it came out to 16 1/2

I guess the crap ruler I was using was... crap.

33" scale. That's my final answer.

ello- the specification in the original TB2000 brochure says that the scale length is 33 1/4 inch. So that would jive with your measurement.
