They are no longer at Maverick music. Maybe sold. Maybe going to be auctioned. Anyway, did anyone save any photos of them? If so, would you please post them.

Hey Dank, Jerry playing a bean is much cooler than just the bean alone, but I went to check out the tb500s at Maverick music and noticed it, or they, were gone. The photographs of the two guitars on that site were the most detailed I'd seen and I'm afraid they may be gone for good. If a collector gets a hold of the guitars they may not see the light of day for many moons. If this is the case, I would imagine those were among the last photos we'll see. I was hoping someone downloaded those pics. They were about the best historical reference photos out there.

yep, great point. I should have nabbed them myself. I thought the 500s were gone (earlier). I do have the artist and the Doug Irwin (ironically called "the bean guitar" but has NOTHING to do with Travis Bean) I'll post some Jerry playing his 500s on my photo-site then link it to this post., I have one somewhere from the back and you can see the imron is almost completely worn off at the 12th fret and abouts! That cat played more than he slept!

Admin, I assume they're looking for photos of Garcia's 2 white TB 500's that were for sale on Maverick's for a long time.
Guitarcharlie - if you have them, please send them to me and I can post them - mayer@aquacraft.com
I also have lots of shots of Garcia playing those guitars, but the photos on the Maverick's site were very detailed.

Boulder... Thanks SO MUCH for posting those! I missed them 1ST time around. For those wondering about the UGB (unity gain buffer), which was invented by Jerry and friend John Cutler, here is a link that explains exactly how it works: http://dozin.com/jers/guitars/tiger/info.html It is quite ingenious yet simple. It basically sends the signal through the pedals, which are always on, or directly to the amp. With a switch on his guitar Jerry could switch through the effects loop or not.
I also find this link extremely fascinating. This is the guitar that Jerry put his Travis down to play for several years. He then went on to 'Tiger' for 11 straight years, NEVER using another guitar on stage. http://dozin.com/jers/guitars/wolf/pic/guitar.html (damn, he took down most all of the up close photos) When you keep in mind that the Dead played over eighty shows a year EVERY year except for 1975 it is pretty amazing. Both this guitar and Tiger (as well as the brother of Tiger, Rosebud which was made solely for the purpose of incorporating MIDI into Jerry's pallet) were made by his friend and ex- Alembic employee Doug Irwin. Irwin is the guy who inherited both guitars and the one who auctioned them off several years back for $800,000 and $700,000 (approximately) as well.
Sorry for straying off topic, but here also is an interesting link that shows the history of all of the guitars Garcia ever used (many classic photos here): http://dozin.com/jers/guitar/history.htm

Dank,
I believe the TB 500 #11 was the first guitar that Garcia used for experimenting with midi. That's what the black strip between the pick ups in the photos is for. He then had Rosebud and later the Cripe guitars (which I never cared for) set up for midi. IMHO his best tone was in the Wolf - Bean - Tiger era.
