I have a TB100A, number 978, the body is not hardly an inch thick. The reciever butt sticks out about a 1/4" past the body. I know with TB's thickness varied over the years, but would there be any chance of the guitar coming out of the factory like this? Everything else seems to be kosher, the carved top is spot on, 2 peice koa body (not highly figured like some) and the finish (although it'd be hard to tell if it had been refinished) looks like a pro job and has definately been on the guitar for a long time. I'm just trying to figure it out.
Thanks Keith

Sounds like you have an early neck and a late body. I wouldn't have come out of the factory that way. No telling why some one would have done it though.

The neck stamp is 978. But besides that, the bodies were never made that thin (<1") even on the thin body TB's, right? So I'm still confused about it.

I've got a thin artist, sn in the 1300's. Its 7/8" at the rim of the body. Where the body joins the neck its about 1 1/4". You SN should be a thick artist, so at some point someone put a thin body on that neck.
There were some bodies left over when the factory closed and they come up on E-Bay from time to time so its entirely possible.
Another thing you can check is to take the neck out of the body. Some of the left over bodies already had their sn written inside.
In any event it seems like some tragedy must have befallen the origional body.

The body thickness on it is a uniform 7/8", meaning it doesn't get thicker like the one you described. I will check to see if the body has a serial number. And thanks very much your help, I appreciate it.

You know, I was wrong....the body does get a bit thicker around the neck joint...like you said. I guess now I know what happened. Thanks again Ezra.
