Here is the listing
Starting bid at $2500, BIN at $2900 http://cgi.ebay.com/Travi.....ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Was the finish stripped at some point? Or is just dark koa? I'm sure it'll find a good home. Sure you want to sell it?

with all my heart i don't want to sell it. many memories, many shows, many songs. this was a live bass, not in a vaulted closet waiting to appreciate ever more, this was my only bass for a long time. but money is needed, not many other options. it was originally white. the ugliest thing i'd ever seen. my former guitar player is a carpenter so he stripped it and the wood is the most beautiful koa i've ever seen.
you asking if i really want to sell it makes me want to pull it off ebay right now. may this won't go the whole three days......

Hey loudidiot, It might sound like I am raining on your parade, but if that "ugly" white finish was original, I'm afraid you cost yourself some serious $ by stripping it. Either way because it has been stripped and the other issues I suggest you keep it and enjoy it as a great playing bass and sell something else. Original koa basses seem to be going for around 3k lately and a rough rule of thumb for a stripped or refinished guitar/bass is about half that of an original example....obviously yours is worth more to you because its a great playing bass. PLAY IT!!! sell that other boring bass..whatever it is :^)

charlie, yeah, 10 years ago i never thought about maintaining the value of the bass so we stripped off the white paint without a second thought. and truthfully, i'd do the same again. because the white was ugly as sin and the natural koa is so damned beautiful. as for my other boring bass, it's an 8 string kramer and it is a pretty important instrument in the band. if it came down to it, the bean would go first. i am going to pull the bean off of ebay though. i'm going to try and figure another way out of my money crisis. thanks for the advice, charlie. sorry if anyone was actually considering buying this.

loudidiot, I think that to be convinced of holding on a Bean should be like getting it new all over again. Needing the money is the only reason someone should ever sell one, and even then, better to sell your body or something ;)
Personally I've always thought that the white and black 2000s looked great. For some reason the koa ones always make me think of the early Matt Groening cartoons from Life In Hell. Anybody else with me on this?!

i loved life in hell! maybe thats why i prefer the koa wood. the white just seemed so wrong to me. whatever, doesn't matter know. it's not going anywhere.
i'd sell my body, but i don't know that i'd have too many buyers. unless they're really drunk.

Glad you're keeping it! I think you would have regretted that decision. I hate selling any musical equipment, I always end up wishing I had it at some point.

maybe we can have a Bean convention, and all get together and drink beers out of aluminum cans. wait, are beer cans already made out of aluminum?
loudidiot, hope it doesn't make your life unbearably difficult to hold on to it (assuming you do in the end) but I think you'll be happy in the end. there's nothing in the world like it. except for a kramer 8-string, doh. But the Kramer doesn't have the rabbit ears.
