I have a 1000A guitar. Its my only guitar but I need a single coil sound for a project that I'm recording. What are peoples suggestions for an after market single coil pick-up that I can buy that would fit in the body ( and sound good ofcourse)? Thanks.

I'll be interested in what others have to say, but my advice is get another guitar with a single coil pickup. Don't modify your Bean so dramatically unless you really don't give a hoot about its value. The pickups are considered one of the key elements of the Bean sound.

Another option might be to install a coil tap. I have heard about people pulling this off without removing the original pickups. Good luck.

I would give Kevin B. a call at Electrical Guitar Company (http://www.electricalguitarcompany.com). He's modeled nice TB1000 pickups. I just purchased an Electrical Standard with split coils. It sounds really good. I'm sure he could help you out with that. It won't be the 'classic' single coil sound.. but if you were needing that.. you might want to get a different guitar for the project. I you want a TB500 sound or hot single coil sound.. this pickup/configuration may be the ticket for the Bean. Make sure you hold on to all of the original hardware though.. and avoid manipulating the body/neck, etc.

Hope this helps

I absolutely don't want to do anything drastic. Just a simple pickup switch, thats all. I value my bean so much that I don't want to play something else! Thanks for the tips!

Greg bailey makes a machined aluminum piece that a regular sized humbucker can slip into and this can be done without any changes to your bean, except for resoldering the leads. You will then just need a humbucker shaped single coil pickup. No problems.

I do not recommend the egc single coils. mine sound flat out muddy. ive heard his humbuckers are great though and these have coil splits, so id go with these. or get some decent p90's.
