Sorry John, I have to disagree with you there. I love his tone at that show. Its really thick and powerful. I admit it almost sounds like he had to hold back to keep his sound from overpowering the rest of the band, but that's one of the things I love about Travis Bean humbuckers. Maybe its not classic Garcia tone, but hearing that show is what tipped me toward buying my first Bean. I love that powerful clear tone! I am not a fan of the nasally processed midi stuff that Garcia did later on. I agree he liked single coils the best, but my favorite single coil sound was his p90 goldtop and then the strat and finally the early tb 500...before he gooped it up with heroin and synthesizers.

don't be sorry for having an opinion. To me, Jerry's finest tone was 79 to late 80's with tiger guitar. Pure analog and stunningly crisp cleans. There is an entire website dedicated to discussing his rig/tone. fyi, he did not start using a synthesizer until 1989. His rhythm playing during this early '80s period was a sound no guitarist before or since has been able to replicate, to this day.
