My buddy helped me (well he did almost all of it) repot my 1000s' pickups a while ago. While we had the pickups out, we looked in the cavity and it looked like it said "R***bow" where the *'s were painted over with black. Any chance this guitar was made for Rainbow?

Hello sam1716

Can you tell if the guitar has been stripped and refinished? Is this a Standard or Artist? This could be a display guitar created for Rainbow music in Hollywood back in the day.

It's a standard and it doesn't appear to have been refinished.

I was hoping this was going to the 'rainbow' painted Bean that was used for their display at Rainbow Music. That was a Artist though. With that said, there were a number of instruments that were purchased by Rainbow Music, and these may have been custom or reserved for Rainbow Music. This is just a guess. Regardless, it's unusual to see that written on the neck.

Thanks for sharing!

There is also a Rainbow Music in Tucson Arizona. I don't know if they are affiliated with Rainbow from LA, but I do know that they carried TB's way back when.
When I brought my standard in to fit for a case, a few of the old-timers gawked and commented on how they haven't seen a TB in over 20 years since they carried them. Needless to say, they did not have a case that fit;)
I ended up using an SKB 335 case purchased at guitar-get. When I brought it in there to fit it, needless to say no one in the store had ever heard of a metal guitar.
