I'm thinking about putting 12s or 13s on my Bean. Has anybody ever put this heavy of strings on their Bean? Do you think I'll have any problem with the neck. I would think the aluminum neck could easily handle that, but I wanted to check to see if anyone else had done it first. Thanks.

Tim Midgett of http://www.silkworm.net/ Silkworm has a TB1000 Standard converted to a baritone. Major thick strings. I think he had to do an adjustment to the nut... but that was it. The neck itself took it just fine. I'd say you'd have no problem at all.

Good. I was just concerned about damaging the neck. Once that baby gets bent I'm sure theres no bending it back. Cant have that happening!

Unfortunately, aluminum is not very good at retaining its original form. Bean necks do bend, and when they do, they're difficult to bend back.
Some metal neck guitar manufacturers have used different metals to overcome this problem, such as Magnum (who uses magnesium), or Veleno (who used a magnesium/aluminum alloy [i think].) I'm not sure if graphite necks (Steinberger, Parker) retained their form.

I've used 13 with no problems. Heavy gauge strings always give the best tone. Fatter the better. Have fun
