Hey, If you email velenoguitars@veleno.net, someone from the family will get back to you right away. I had a question for them about a specific guitar I had not bought yet, they steered me in the right direction. It was over Memorial day weekend to boot. Very nice folks, the Velenos.

Not sure what you mean, Kevin - can you clarify re: years and body numbers?

The bodies changed towards the end. There was a smaller cap on the back not a half and half body. One pc was 1inch and the other .25, this eliminated the need for the 1 bolt to hold the neck on if you ever needed to open it up, you didnt even have to touch those bolts with this design. A very neat idea and the over all body thickness shrank to 1.25. This body started in the 140s ish. Ive seen a few of each in this range. The red one seems correct, but the 170 is too high for that body style, but again these are strange birds so it could be just following suit. Its not really that I doubt that they are real, its just they dont line up with the information available.
Also, 120 is claimed as '74, 170ish is claimed as '72 and 140s is '71. The only thing I can think that would make these numbers make sense is he did a few reds and the bodies were numbered and they sat until they sold, so 120 could be 74 etc, but the 170ish as '72 doenst make much sense even with that idea. If these numbers are right the last 4 years of production were very slow.

Well they are just a mirrored Telecaster and the neck is simply a telecaster neck shaved down about .2 so they have the exact same profile as a Tele. I think they are rad... they are on the ugly side, but after a bit I began to really like the look and sound.
If anyone is ever in Atlanta go by the Hard Rock Cafe, they have Greg Allmans Veleno #5(I believe) in there.

People used to think TBs looked ugly, too. The criticisms ranged from 'way too heavy', to 'cold necks' to 'oddball'. Once you couldn't give them away - now look at their popularity! If you've ever played a Veleno, they are simply awesome. I wouldn't say they are 'better' than beans, just different and unique Nothing beats TB pickups, sustain and power (particularly standards - never really understood the hype about 500s, and have owned several). Velenos, on the other hand have a smooth, super-sustaining, bell-like chime, with some real grunt if you put decent high-output humbuckers in there. They came with various pickups when new, so I don't have much of an issue with 'original' vs non-original pickups in Velenos - it just doesn't stack up to argue that way. They came with Guilds, Dimarzios, Gibson T-Tops, Seymour Duncans, you name it. Velenos are also quite diverse, in terms of body styles, weight, and other features, as has already been mentioned. (Thanks for that clarification, Kevin - I didn't realise you were talking about the ebay auctions).

Bargain! - I wonder how it would differ from a brass block that one could have machined up in almost any metal workshop round abouts ...?

Hmmmm, that's the 5th different serial # I have been told is on that guitar. I do not understand why one would lie about a serial #? I never would or about several other things...

You want to see what happens when someone gets an unfinished Veleno body and cant figure out what to do with it? http://cgi.ebay.com/FREEM.....ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What a piece of shit and quite the shame. The neck pocket has been machined down to nothing and i guess he couldnt find a tail pc or proper bridge and put that horrible bridge on it.
