i want to retrofit a high quality, non locking vibrato to the travis bean. i don't really want to disturb the layout of the guitar, in other words, i want the strings through the body as now, don't mind mounting something to the wood under my bridge, but don't want to remove any metal, other than drilling holes for mounting.

if a new bridge is part of the deal, i haven't a problem with that. i also don't want a bigsby, its too retro looking for the travis.

guess i should also note, i don't want this to dive bomb, i play with 013-056 strings, i want a gentler friendlier sort of tremolo.

I asked the same question a few years ago and got the same response (must be something to do with vandalising a work of art) I'd still like to have one fitted myself.

this is the one i would pick to install if it is possible,

stetsbar
www.stetsbar.com

i guess i can ask stetsbar, maybe somebody can tell me. this looks like the strat style would work.

Hi Zanzispot. It looks to me like the Stetsbar system isn't going to pair-up with the TB design. It is meant for retrofit on guitars that utilize a tune-o-matic style bridge, or bolt-ons like teles or strats. Point being, you will need to have a guitar that has a neck angle that will support the higher pitch of a tune-matic bridge (like on a Gibson), or one in which you can shim the neck to change the neck angle. The TB is a neck-through design, which means that you are "slaved" to a zero-degree neck angle.
