Wow, a travis bean standard going for $2,700 on ebay right now. Granted it is a colored finished, with a hard case, and in the UK, but still...seems like a lot to pay. I guess vintage guitar magazine was right about the 87% increase in value.

Funny enough there was a white artist that was on sale at the same time, but it only went for $2500. It was a later model so it was probably a thinner body, but either way $2500 is still a fair chunk of change.

The white artist final selling price was 3500.00. Anyone who thinks that is high price is a moron. 1. these guitars went for over 1,000 brand new back in the day. In todays dollars, 1,000 is 3000 1975 dollars, these guitars have been under priced all this time. 2. There were only 750 artists made total 3. Look at the prices of any quality vintage. Eg nice les paul jrs are now going for 7000 plus and there were thousands made

Yeah I totally agree, they are a work of art. I just hope the next time I have enough cash that I can get one for less than $2000.

Question is if the prices would have gone that high if that article hadn't been published. Not that everybody reads VGM, but stuff like this always feeds the flames.

im in its really not a good thing at all. the only people who will benefit are dicks who collect guitars dont play them and then sell them later for a profit. i can have much respect for someone who keeps something as rare and enjoyable to play as a bean looked up in a cupboard and doesnt invest any time and emotion into the instrument like someone who loves beans would.

the prices are high only because people are willing to pay it. I have watched standarts start from 1000 /- and go to to nearly 2000 (and even more) in the closing days of ebay auctions. Obviously, people who are considering selling their guitar can see this, and that encourages them to do what is only natural - sell high. I think an article in some magazine only has a noticable effect if the BUYERS adhere to it's guidelines, afterall, something is REALLY only worth what someone is willing to pay for it....

Let me just say again. Anything sold for 1000 in 1976 dollars is worth at least 3000 in 2006 dollars. If anyone would like to sell me their house for what they payed for it in 1976, let me know!!! If these things do not appreciate in value, esepecially when so few were made, then they are crap and we would not be here discussing this bullshit
