Are the stress cracks as common on the 1000S's as they are on the 500s? I have a 1000S that I'm considering taking on tour. It's insured, so I'm not worried about it being stolen. It doesn't have any cracks and I'd like to keep it that way. Is there anything I can do? Something I could modify even? I don't care about the "collector's value", etc. For instance, I assume that's what the metal plate on the back of Kevin's EGCs are for, but maybe I'm wrong. I know I should probably leave it at home, but it just sounds so damn amazing.

The only problems Ive seen on Standards and the basses is them actually breaking in half down the center wood joint. It genrally doesnt happen thought, just be mindful of it.

so then it's really only a problem in the 500s? i've seen pictures of some of those cracks where the neck first meets the body.
