Does anyone know if it's possible to install a coil tap to split the humbuckers into a single coil pickup? I would like to have one of these super hot pickups to be single coil as to be not quite so hot. They overdrive every amp I have tried.
Thanks

if the pickups have 4 wires it shouldn't be difficult

HI!

Of the few Travis Bean pickups I've seen, they are all 2 wire. This means that the pickup cover will need to be removed to tap in. So, we're back to the old debate of taking covers off of Travis Bean pickups. Doing that is risky, but some people have done it successfully. Fortunately, IF you do damage the pickup, it CAN be repaired. I know for a fact that Lindy Fralin can rewind these pickups. If you have any doubts about removing these covers yourself, you may want to check with Lindy Fralin to see about having the coil tap thing done by them. Here's a link. http://www.fralinpickups.com/

Thanks Gregg and Elo. Sounds like a risky endevour. Still, it would be an excellent mod for me. I will let you all know if I do this and how it turns out. Bean pups are hot, hot hot.
