I have someone interested in buying #760, the guitar I discussed in my post titled "Advice?" a while back. This is the one with the rare purple lined case. Can anyone tell me if the rarity of the case should affect the value of this and, if so, to what extent? I don't want to bleed anybody but, I also don't want to hear anyone saying "You sold it for what????". Any help would be appreciated.

I would pay $3000 for it. If you are getting more than that, then I think you did very well.

Thanks for the reply. I've been advised before that the overall is about $3000 but I am still curious as to the value of the case itself. I have people interested in each seperately and want to make sure I am being fair in what I request and in what I expect back. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion: Because the guitar is a refin I would say that right now it is worth about $2500 and I would add $500 for the case. HOWEVER if I was selling the case separate I would want more than $500 for it. Maybe as high as $1000 because the refin might only be worth $2000 when you actually go to sell it.

If you want my 2c worth (approx 1.88c AUD) sell the guitar to some one who wants a bean for the sound and not just as a nice collection piece for $2000 and hold a collector over a barrel for the original case.
cheers

gse1,

That is one of the wisest and most sensible posts I've ever read on this site. And I'm not saying that for personal gain, cause I don't want this particular case or guitar....

I didn't realise the cases were such a big deal. The original ones don't say anything about being Travis Bean, do they? My first TB2000 came with a lovely old purple-lined case, but I didn't realise it was so important.
