I've been away from this site for awhile ... what are you all doing lately? Who is playing a Travis Bean in a band ... and where are you based?

Hi Peggy. I've been playing my Bean in my band Dwarf Planets for about 4 years. We're based in Boulder, CO. Managing professional careers, family, and a major music hobby on the side is a challenge for everyone in the band, but we're still at playing gigs, recording, and trying to create new music and sounds. Check us out at www.reverbnation.com/dwarfplanets. What are you up to? Did you get a Bean bass?

Hi Peggy, wow its quiet in here lately...
Never got to play my Bean in a band as I didn't have it at the time. I do a lot of soundtrack work for small films and use my Bean a lot for that.

I've played a Bean in every music project I've been involved with since 1998. Prior to that I played Les Pauls.
Hiper Lopro - at the end of the run. It was a loud - quiet 4 piece band _pollen - math rock 4 piece band tra-bang! - Fu Manchu tribute band (2 performances) - 4 piece Joy Division Tribute show - One night only performance - 6 members were involved (rotating) Judas Priest - British Steel album tribute band w/Lazerwolfs (3 performances I think) - 4 piece Currently I'm in Maria which is a 5 member band.. in the vein of stoner/riff rock.
I like the fact that the Bean cuts it from classic rock to post-punk to stoner to weird math to clean stuff. It cuts it for rhythm work.. and lead stuff. These projects I play my TB1000S. I've been considering pulling out the TB500 for something, but not really liking how it fits with two guitars. I often play with guys that play Gibsons (Les Paul or SG) and the 500 sometimes gets lost in the mix with the natural scooped mids of the guitar. I'm always impressed how the TB1000S fits *uniquely* in the mix against other guitars. Has it's own set of mid frequencies where it can be heard well with a Les Paul.. or Strats, but sounds different. In Maria, the other guitarist plays a SG or ES335 and again the Standard works well with this. My other projects usually involve a Les Paul or Strat for the other guitar.
I've been kicking around a few song ideas for a 3 piece where I would be the only guitar... and the TB500 is what I would like to play.
Oh.. and I'm located in Montana

Hello Peggy, how's it going?
I played a Bean in Skin Horse - which has now dissolved - and currently in a new band called The Burial Tide; we're in San Francisco.
It's good to see that folks are still posting on the forum.

I used to play my black TB1000S in several different bands in and around the Detroit area in the late 70's and early 80's. The reason I mention this is because of all of the attention I got from playing that guitar. People approached me during every performance to either ask me about it or to just tell me how cool it was or how good it sounded. I still have my Bean but I don't play out anymore.

Hi Peggy, Very cool (Aug. 2010) photo of you with your Artist.
I'd sure like to hear about what amp you like using with it.
Thanks!

I play in a band called The Ominous Order of Filthy Mongrels. We are based out of NJ. I recently bought a TB1000S and we are inseperable now.

Hi everybody ! I play the Artist through a small Marshall that has amp modeling. I love to play slide on that guitar; the sustain howls forever, long and lonely and bluesy. This year, I'm playing stand-up bass in an orchestra. I'm using my Clevinger electric stand-up (it's the only stick I've played that actually sounds like a bass fiddle, the plucked notes 'thut' percussively; with the bow rosined up nicely the bowed notes sound just like bass fiddle, and when I play a harmonic everyone can hear it, double basses don't give audible harmonics). I'm running it through a small Marshall bass amp with compression, eq, and voicing controls. I'm at the Tuacahn Natural Amphitheatre in St. George Utah. (Google it, it's beautiful and has state-of-the-art tech stuff; audio booth looks like an airport control tower). My husband and I are checking out this area as a possible retirement site. It's close to Las Vegas, which has direct flights to every major city in the world. I've been meeting the other musicians here, one of them has invented a new keyboard instrument and wants me to do progressive rock originals with him (he didn't have to ask me twice!).

PS. Thanks to everyone who has posted about your bands, guitars and whereabouts - it's really nice to know where you are. And it's nice to know that Beans are still out there working and rocking and rolling ... Peggy
