Hello All
There is a TB1000A #867 on eBay. Nice lookin' Koa and finish. Interesting notes, has non-standard inlays, possible ebony fingerboard. Not sure what's original. Pickguard is unattached but is included. Appears to have OHSC.
Starting bid at $3,500, BIN at $8,650 and with reserve.

If anyone has any more information to add, please post here.
Good luck!

the fretboard might be a replacement. I would think someone would know about custom inlays. Also, if you look at photo #1, towards the bottom, the carved part seems to go way too deep and is oblong. Is not symetrical like an artist. seems to be pretty shiny for an early one too. The electronics cavity probably tells the story. This is pure speculation on my part. It's a beautiful guitar. Nice to meet any new folks. Part time poster, John B. Ruklick

For me, the attraction of a TB is the sheer simplicity of design and form - it's what the great early Fender guitars had going for them, too. So even if those inlays are original, why would anyone want a guitar with a kitsch fretboard like that? (Let the taste wars begin!)

BigBeanBuddyBro! please share your story. You are the glue that holds the Bean universe together. In my opinion this is THE ugliest guitar I have ever seen. I wonder if the weekend luthier who did this would like to add a floyd rose to my 57 strat.

Regardless of the politics here, ahem, Vincent now that this guitar has sold, would you please tell us your opinion of this guitar, whether you think the inlays are original etc?
Even though I wouldn't have expected something like that from the Bean factory, the koa was just so stunning on that guitar, that I wouldn't have been surprised if it were some special show piece or custom order for somebody famous. I'm really curious to know the real story.

WOW...OK I am impressed that guitar sold for so much. Just proves the old proverb: to each his own. I appreciate the modern design of Travis Beans and to me that fretboard does not look right. It would be good to know the back story on that guitar...sounds like history trumped design for this one.
By the way VG: thanks for sharing the back story on the ebay communication for this guitar. I had to laugh at the cheesy tactics that guy used. Now I know what happens when auctions end early....I hate that!

so can we get the dish on whether or not those inlays were original?
i can only guess that they were with it selling for that much.
i'm basing this on the fact that there's a very nice though possibly refinished artist that has repeatedly failed to sell for $6995.

The other good thing about TB design is that the fretboards are easy to replace!

crikey, that's a lot, considering a nicer looking TB1000A recently didn't get any bids for less on t'bay.
a close relative of mine (987) kind of ugly fretboard though.

I own 989 artist bean - you should see how ****** it is. not by me i must add - the previous owner hacked all the wood out between the two pick ups and ripped out the bridge pick up, replacing it with a pick up that had 'performance' written on it. not a brand im familiar with to be honest. it had anarchy signs all over it to it, as well as a few pentograms for good measure. 'mitchell ponder' (his name im assuming) has also been carved into the metal, which is nice. luckily, all was not lost as 'mitch' had also carved 'do what though wilt' into the top of the t. still, its my favourite though and it was cheap. it just sounds the best out of the ones i own.
