we all want a unique guitar sound or perhaps we want to emulate our favourite guitar player's sound. the amplifier you choose is as important as the guitar you play. i do not own a TB yet but i would love to hear your experiences. if possible, give a brief description of your gear (what TB model and what amp you use? what kind of music you play? what other amplifiers have you tried with your TB? it won't hurt if you mention what pedals you have used...

peace,
sergio.

Nice questions Sergio. I hope lots of folks will respond. Here is what I do....

Music style: Original rock (influenced by the Who, the Clash, Wilco, Patti Smith, the Police, Dylan, yada yada yada)

Guitar: TB 1000S #933 (I prefer Elixer 0.11's)

Amp: Mesa/Boogie DC-5

Pedals: Mesa foot switches (channel, EQ, reverb), EH Q-Tron, Ibanez Tube Screamer (moded by Analogman), Peavey DD1 digital delay, Analogman clone chorus, Boss tuner. All powered by Voodoo labs Pedal Power II.

Hi Sergio,

Music Style: Instrumental rock in a kinda heavy/evil/complicated vein.

Guitar: Black TB1000S with thick guage strings. Tuning = DGDGBE

Amp: Hiwatt Custom 100 Head with a matching 4x12 Cabinet (soon to be made into a stereo setup with another Hiwatt Lead 100 head and a cab).

Pedals: Boss DD-5 Delay, Boss OC-3 Octave pedal, Marshall ED-1 Compressor, Boss NS-2 Noise Supressor.

I use the delay in a very subtle way to get tones similar to Andy Gill from Gang of Four/Geordie from Killing Joke. The Octave pedal is so that I can play dirty clanky basslines for variation. The compressor boosts my Hiwatt valves to get lovely palm muted tones and rich powerchords. The Noise suppressor keeps the sound nice and tight a la Helmet for whenever I suddenly stop riffing.

I play with the treblier bridge pickup setting on the Travis Bean. I've been using it for a year now and can honestly say it's the best thing that I've owned since starting guitar 15 years ago. It toally inspires your playing with the exciting spiky sounds that it produces and the pickups are so powerful that they really hammer out a great signal into your amp. Travis Beans have quite a noisy neck for fret buzzing etc. but if you like all that stuff it's great for character and just makes everything sound gnarly and raw.

Best wishes,

Jason

Music Style: Emo

Guitar: TB1000S koa

Amp: Rivera Knucklehead 100 w/Marshall 4x12 1960A vintage 30s cab

Pedals: Occasionaly use Audio Crowther Hot Cakes or nothing at all

I mainly play with bridge pickup. Tones on the bright side, usually with 'medium grit' distortion to heavy distortion. Strings are 10s in standard tuning.

1. 1000S with an early seventies Ampeg V4 with matching 4x12 cab.
Also use 2 TubeWorks driver pedals in series to get a low volume boost.
2. Same guitar often gets run through a 69 SVT through one or both V4 cabinets. Also use driver pedals here too.

Nowadays I run my Travis Bean Standard straight into either a 1951 Rickenbacker M-11 (tweed deluxe circuit with 6SC7 octal preamp tubes) or a 1959 M-11 (12AX7 preamp tubes and a 5E3 Deluxe circuit). My speaker of choice is an original early 60's Vox gray Alnico Bulldog 12" speaker.

In reserve are an 1986 Marshall Studio 15, and a 65' Gretsch/Valco 6156 amp with the 6973 output tubes (almost identical circuit to the Led Zepplin I Valco/Supro Page used).

As you might imagine from my choice of equipment my tastes and playing styles are "classic" rock and blues and my two biggest influences of late are Mike Bloomfield and Peter Green. I find that my Bean easily cops those fat with bright cutting clarity tones those two guys got out of their '59 Les Pauls.

TB1000S #1711 into a goodrich model 120 volume pedal into a THD Flexi 50 & matching 2x12 cab. i play weird instrumental progressive rock. for years i used a 100 watt Hiwatt and a Marshall 4x12 with my Bean, but i recently upgraded/downsized my rig. it sounds better, and it's way more portable.

I don't use my 500 much but when I did it sounded best through a Fender Twin, pretty clean and then with a boost if needed - sometimes with a 1x15 cab too for some thump.

I had an Artist but I sold it as it sounded shitty through the Twin but I tried it once through a HiWatt 100 and a 4x12 and it smoked. Go figure.

I play through a Matamp Green Classic 120... It's basically the same as the old Orange Overdrive 120s. That goes into a Green 4x12 with Vintage 30s and a Hiwatt 4x12 with Fane 25s. My tone is pretty simple: set the pre at about half, turn everything else up all the way, and maybe back off the treble and presence a bit. No pedals. It sounds increadible.

I also play instrumental progressive rock... I'm beginning to see a trend here... But I play a little on the heavier side. You can listen to some stuff at www.myspace.com/johnrambo but it's a basement recording from when I first got my Bean, and not exactly representative of my current sound.

Cheers
