Well, I have just recently become aware of these fantastic guitars and am now looking to purchase one. My understanding is that some of the later models have necks that are thinner at the nut and tapered -- and it would be my preference to find one of these models. The smaller the neck, the better. Any way, if anybody has one for sale, knows of one for sale, or can give me any tips or advice, I would very much appreciate it.

I believe it's the other way around. Early model Beans specifically serials in the 100s have the thin tapered neck at the nut. They standardized the necks around 300-400 so they remained consistent (I could totally be wrong here). I know the body designs changed in later models (wider horns and thinner wood bodies) plus imron coating on the necks.
Good luck on finding a Standard. You see them on ebay every once and a while.. and if you're persistent, you'll find a good deal.. when no one else is looking.
