I replaced the bridge pickup with a Little '59 by SM. The repair guy was a pro and after mounting the pickup set the pickup cover in wax, so the guitar looks stock. The original pickup survived the removal and can be re-mounted at anytime.
The tone is much better on the bridge pickup now. I handles high-gain a lot better and I can shape the sound with the tone pot. I presume the sound it closer to a TB1000 because of the single coil size humbucker. I can get some really Jesus Lizard tones now as well as rich heavy gain a la Helmet.
I've lost a little of the unique Travis microphonic sound on the bridge setting, but as soon as I use the centre or neck setting it's right there.
Overall a job well done.
